Joe Johnson Out scored the Big 3 in the 4th Quarter

Post#1 » by return2glory » Tue Apr 29, 2008 9:45 am

Joe Johnson outscored the so called Big 3 in the 4th quarter. In fact he outscored the entire Celtic team 20-17 by himself.

Once again, great coaching job by Doc Rivers. Our best defensive wing(Tony Allen-remeber him) didn't even play 1 minute.

The whole year, a lot of people here are saying that KG and Pierce deserve the MVP, espeacilly KG. MVP type players step up in the clutch, they don't settle for fall away, step back shots from 20 feet.

Pierce got punked by a rookie in game 3 and responsed with only 18 points on 5-14 shooting. :banghead:

KG got outplayed by the more aggressive Josh Smith. Smith went to the line 13 times and had 7 blocks. KG went to the line only 4 times and had 0 blocks. KG did have 6 steals however, but still not enough for a a MVP candidate.

I thought it was UNBELIEVABLE how Rivers didn`t make any adjustments in the fourth quarter. He had our worse defender against their best offensive player. JJ was abusing Ray possession after possession but nothing changed. No Posey, no Tony on JJ it looked like Rivers wanted Johnson to score every time.

I think this series has really brought us all back down to earth. I hoped our players could balance out the "Rivers factor" but in the playoffs you can`t go all the way with a bad game coach.

We are completely lost, IMO. I have no idea what our rotation is nor do the players. Rivers looks completely clueless on the bench and is not capable of making any ingame adjustments.

The players haven`t been playing great but when you get outcoached like that by Woodson there is no excuse for it.

i got flamed for saying this is the beginning of the year but this type of disappearing and playing timidly when his team needs him are the criticisms that have been dogging KG his entire career. he has always has had a rather paltry record for getting to the line especially for a "superstar." For a reason i don't under stand his intensity (all his screaming and carrying on) seem to make him immune to criticism. The sad truth is KG only advanced past the first round once. if he doesn't start to play better that won't change this year.

The problem is that everyone has anointed KG the leader and the goto guy, when Pierce has been a better 4th quarter performer than KG. Doc has been badly outcoached by Woodson. When the Hawks couldn't get anything going offensively, they let their best offensive player take over the game, knowing that the Celtics had noone who could guard him. Pierce needs to do this as well in this series. Marvin Williams could not defend him and we need to let him try to get to the line and get some of the Hawks in foul trouble, the way the Hawks were getting to the line and getting our guys in foul trouble.

Also it doesn't help when Rondo takes more shots than the 6th leading scorer in Celtic history.

Which shots do you object to Rondo taking? Just about every shot I can recall was fine and a shot he's been taking and making all year, he just missed a couple layups, a couple mid-range jumpers he's shown are well within his range this year and Josh Smith made a few ridiculous blocks. It's not as if Rondo was out there bombing away from 3 point land. Those are high percentage shots...last night was just one of the rare games where he missed a bunch of shots he's capable of hitting.

It's not like Pierce was playing great basketball and should have been commanding more shots either. If anything, Ray Allen was the Celtic that was hot last night and should've gotten more shots.

I didn't have a problem with any of Rondo's shots. What I have a problem with is that our PG took more shots than Pierce. This wasn't Rondo's fault. A coach has to step in and get the ball to Pierce, especially in the 4th quarter.
