Billups vs. Jameer

Post#1 » by Super_Mario_3 » Tue Apr 29, 2008 2:33 pm

IF we face detroit in the next round, jameer will really play a critical role, especially in his match-up against billups. I think that the match-up against detroit comes at a good time for jameer with billups struggling big-time in their series against philly.

Game 1: 3/9 FG, 1/3 3FG, 14pts, 2reb, 4ast
Game 2: 3/6 FG, 2/4 3FG, 9pts, 4reb, 6ast
Game 3: 2/11 FG, 0/5 3FG, 11pts, 4reb, 4ast
Game 4: 4/16FG, 1/7 3FG, 18pts, 6reb, 7ast

billups' shot has been horrible in the playoffs. in the detroit board, they're already thinking of new names for billups:

How about Mr. Big Shiiiiiit?
Mr. Little Shot?
Mr. Big Miss?
Mrs. Big Shot?
Mr. Brickhouse
Mr. Big Mess
Mr. Overpaid
Mr. Minimum Performance
Mr. Regular Season
Hollinger called him "The Artist Formerly Call Mr. Big Shot"
Mr. Look for the foul when the game is on the line rather than actually just trying to score the last Shot
Mr. Big Head
Mr. Big Flop
Launchy Brick-ups

if billups continues to struggle in the philly series, i think jameer has a pretty good chance of lowering the gap between him and chauncey.

Billups, Hunter and Stuckey are 10x the match up that Ford and Calderon are. Those 3 play EXCELLENT defense and all of them can make strong plays, obviously Billups is Mr. Big Shot and will hit just about anything, but Hunter and Stuckey are also crucial...Hands down winner in this match up is Detroit...

Jameer will have to be on his game 2 fold if we stand a chance, we can't stop Detroit, but we can do our best at shouldering them...

Your forgetting 1 thing Andre Miller is one reason hes not shooting well. Jameer wont make him struggle like that

Our weapons on Billups isnt Jameer, its Evans and Bogans. Both can shoot 3's both can defend both have size.

The interesting thing is they have noone who can match Howard. Rasheed will probably be assigned there, but I would expect us to defend Rasheed with Lewis on the other end. This year, with the addition of Evans and Lewis we match up better. All of this depends on how well Jameer plays as when he is in the game, he will have to defend Billups, he cant defend Hamilton.

Also of interest now is how Hedo is playing this year will be against Prince, I assume. Both can shoot from the outside, Prince is a good defender but will be well out muscled against Hedo. If Hedo drives like he has he could wear down Prince. if he Prince chases it might wear down his own shot.

Lots of interesting stuff this year. IMO, we match up better with Jameer off the court and Bogans on Billups, Evans on Hamilton , but maybe he has turned it around.
My 2 cents is worth 5 cents.

Billups is just a tough match up for Nelson. Billups is basically a bigger version of Nelson, and so all of Nelson's strengths are canceled out. That said, if need be they can run a lot different looks at Billups with Lewis to try and get the ball out of his hands, or just let Nelson battle and take our lumps. I hate that match up personally and am glad that Billups is on the decline.

Bogans and Dooling seem to defend Billups rather well. If Jameer is getting torched just bring in one of them and Turk will run point. Jameer also has to make Billups defend him.

Exactly, besides, so far Billups owned Jameer, which, he is too small to defend a bigger Billups in the post.

Then whom would your expect Jameer to guard, Rip???? Or sit on the bench and not use him?

Billups always gives it his all against us, so don't expect the struggles to continue if we face them next round.

IF Orlando plays Detroit in the 2nd round, and IF the Magic win the 1st game...it's going to make for an interesting series...I think that the 1st game will be the most crucial game for Orlando...If they get blown out they will be fighting up hill mentally and physically the whole way...

the Key to beating Detroit is stopping Rip and Rasheed, you have to limit their rebounding and bring enough energy to out work them, Detroit is the best blue collar team in the league, they work every possession like a full time job...

Billups is struggling because he's playing against a big guard in Andre Miller. Billups will regain his usual form once he faces Jameer. Let's face it, when we go up against Detroit, Billups is gonna do to Jameer what Deron Williams is doing to Alston. Hopefully Van Gundy will increase Doolings minutes and put him on Billups cause Dooling is clearly our best defensive guard.

Why is everyone assuming Detroit will even get out of the first round?

Either way, now is a different game for our PG...

Jameer did a great job vs two quick offensive PGs, now he will have to fight a big defensive PG (in Billups and Miller), who also play great offense (Billups > Miller)

Billups will go off on us, no question. You can already tell, right? But the real question is can Jameer match his production on the other end.

at this point in time, i 'd rather go against billups than miller. Miller ABUSED nelson all year, and miller is taking it to billups during their series. regardless, orlando is going to be at a huge disadvantage at point, and will give up a ton of production from that position, just like the raptors series. As someone pointed out, nelson needs to give the same amount of offense, that he gives up on defense.
