Is Dwight taken for granted?

The kid just had THREE 20/20 games in a 5 game playoff series. During that time I would estimate he altered 40 shots or so (not including all the times no one would even dream of coming in the lane).

The media obviously could care less despite the fact that what we are witnessing is truly remarkable. No one gets 20/20 these days and Dwight is ripping them off every other night right now!

As fans have we also come to take DH for granted? I don't know the answer, but since everyone is handing out props, may as well say that Howard was SPECTACULAR this series and he is growing up fast.

Perhaps it hasn't fully set in as far as what he's accomplished this series.

He accomplishes it in such a workman like manner it's surprising to me when I look at the boxscore and see the numbers.

He certainly earned the "C" on his jersey! He took a huge step forward in career.

Before this series, I wondered if he'd be able to step it up and carry the team. And he certainly did!!!!!

Heh, wasn't suggesting we think it is "normal", rather that it sort of crept up on us. Many here thought he would be a similar player to last year and looking back on this series - he was literally an unstoppable force.

Beyond that, his intensity level and maturity are growing and it is easy to forget how green he was a couple years ago

I certaintly dont take it for granted. We wouldnt be in the position we are now if it wasent for Dwight. Dwight is the Orlando Magic.

It's hard to take someone for granted when it's blatantly obvious that if you replace him in the lineup with even a solid center(Haywood for example), that this team would struggle to win 35 games.

And really, if the media doesn't want to treat him like a world-eater, who cares?

I don't think Magic fans take Dwight for granted. We know he is the franchise. But I think it's hard for us to see how good he has become. It kind of crept up on us. That's why it's always amusing to see a game announced by someone other than our guys, and hear them rave on and on about Dwight.

i'm quite surprised at how unheralded his achievments have become. like mfishy said, we're witnessing history here. when was the last time someone came in and put up consistent 20/20 games!?!?

it seems in the past the Robinsons/ Ewings/ Olajuwans/ Shaqs/ Duncans all came in and people followed their every achievement and threw parades at any given chance. even Amare got his fair share of credit before his knee injury. now Dwight has arrived and it doesn't seem he gets enough front pages on ESPN for what i consider him to be.

like i said in the game thread: watching Dwight is like watching the big kid in highschool that the other team just can't prepare for. he's just naturally on another level to most players.

It's funny because I have a general feeling that people still think he's overrated... More than the gaudy numbers (which are a truly ASTONISHING acheivement in the ORL/TOR series). I like the quiet intensity we've seen from Dwight on the court. The fact that he's ratcheted this up a notch or two will allow him to impose his will on the game, and make his stats actually be game changing, instead of just a fantasy basketball line.

Just as an aside, I think the most interesting and impressive part about Dwight is NOT where he is as a player or where he could be...

It's that for three consecutive years now, he's improved SOMETHING about his game dramatically. As a sophmore, it was his ability to draw free throws and the way he moved without the ball, little bit on the glass, too... and even scoring rate. As a third-year guy, he made minor improvements as a passer and at DrawF but he started to learn how to be the focal point of an offense and while he had turnover troubles, he was still showing all kinds of great improvement as an isolation scorer in the post.

This year, his rebounding has been immense, he's cut down his turnovers big time, he's improved his foul-drawing skills for the third year in a row and his defense looks a lot better.

I wonder when he'll finally peak and when it'll finally be just about how many shots he can get to determine his statistical production? I mean, Dwight's still very young, the same age as was Duncan when he was drafted, so his prospects for improvement are still ridiculous.

He's a scary, scary talent.

I dont think anyone is taking him for granted. We are all witnessing his development in front of our own eyes. We may be getting used to these extra ordinary numbers at such a young age, but we are surely not taking it for granted.

Infact, I am absorbing every minute of him on the floor and taking it in game after game. Just imagine 4 yrs from now Tim Duncan never looked anywhere near as impressive. Walt Chamberlain all over again. Im just glad we are all a part of this PHENOM.

hey all, just saw the good news

we do not take him for granted, but it does not suprise me that it has not been mentioned at all on any halftime shows. dwight is a monster, hopefully the sixers can pull off the upset






having a great time in rome, well i was having a great time. met this girl and spent 4 days together. love her to death but she had a fiancee. could not convince her, just spent the day lying together, no sex but still man, i am very crushed.

worst part is her dude is an obvious douche. the girl is a virgin and she said he has cheated on her 2x, but the second time the girl jumped on him and he resisted even kissing her. ya f<&$"/( right. she told me he went to college and was a normal dude, even worked at after hour parties, yet he tells her he has only had sex once. i cannot believe she would believe him, but i guess i could not convince her. she went back to toronto yesterday. i have never felt worse in my life. i dont wanna forget her but i mean short of hiring cheaters to show her he is an ass i dunno what to do. guess there is nothing i can do. sorry for being a big vagina on a sports message board, but i found my true love and it was ripped away from me. anyways, go magic
