KG not so popular anymore

Post#1 » by dockingsched » Tue Apr 29, 2008 8:41 pm

seems like throughout the season there has been a lot more criticisms of KG than ever before. he used to be the player that every fan base spoke well of, but now he's getting called out for almost every little thing.

whats the biggest reason why?

first time on a big market team?
playing for the best regular season team?
higher exposure of his on court antics?

It used to be he had reason to be lunatic i.e. playing with crap for 7 years. Now he has a great cast around him and he's even more of a lunatic, which makes about zero sense.

That and he just got majorly punked by Zaza Pachulia, who essentially confronted him about all his posturing and curse-laden tirades to everyone in a 20 feet vicinity.

All of that only serves to highlight the fact that he essentially plays hot potato with the basketball in the 4th quarter and looks like he needs a medic to come in and give him the Heimlich maneuver.

For KG, the 'intense' label is no longer an explanation for his antics.

I think you're confused, this isn't a thread about Tim Duncan.

Winner or not, I don't like how much of a child he behaves like at his age.

Exactly. Nuggets fans were severely hating on Kobe for mouthing/popping off for a grand total of maybe 30 seconds.

KG does this for 42 minutes of every game. (the other 6 minutes are during the 4th quarter, when he has that deer in headlights look on his face)

I think you answered your own question... he is now facing the same cricitism that Dirk has faced.

He has more talent around him and now it is expected for him to accomplish much more accolades.

Joakim Noah pounded his chest and yelled in college everytime he made a play, he became the most hated player in college basketball. KG pounds his chest, yells and curses out everybody and their mother and he is called fiery and emotional. People rooted for him because he was a great player being supposedly stifled by a horrible management.

He could've been a jackass in minnesota because for one they were barely on TV and for two those fans were so desparate to please him that no one dared to question him. Now that he's in Bristol, he's on TV often and everyone can see who he is and people around the country don't care about his feelings,

c'mon guys thats called passion and intensity. Granted he takes it to the extreme, i still love every minute of it. Its a sign that hes focused, ferocious...animal like when hes on the court. I donno about you guys but i'd love a guy like that on my team. People always hate on the best...and thats what the celtics and KG have been this season.

The reason is, when he was on the Timberwolves, we didn't really see him as much so everybodys opinions of him are based on what they heard and his numbers and highlights - and yes he's a great player - and they sympathized because the Timberwolves were just a horrible organization.

Now that the light is shined on him on Boston, people are seeing that he's a big trash talker, kind of bush league in the way he acts, jumps and screams for no reason, and tries to be a bit of a bully (except when someone stands up to him, Zaza, McDyess, etc).

Fantastic player, but he comes across as a dick. it's funny how people try to excuse him being a dick by repeating the same tired old "its his passion and intensity" yeah well plenty of people have passion and intensity and aren't dicks. MANY people.

There are few NBA fans that hate KG. You said it yourself, he takes it to the extreme. If your're going to trash-talk and drop f-bombs on your opponent for 40+ minutes, you better win the game. He has a good team around him now, people want to see him take over games, that hasn't happened for two straight games and he got punked by Zaza, he needs to step it up

Well said!

I had no idea what a loud mouth jerk-off this guy was. I was always under the assumption that he was just a high-motor guy, high passion guy........but what I've seen of him this year with all the national media attention has shown me that he's nothing but a show boater playing for the cameras and attention. I remember how much I wanted to trade Amare for him before the season began, then after their first tiff this year I immediately changed my mind .........I don't respect that kind of basketball.

That's news to me.
I always thought he was kind of punkish when he was with the Wolves.

This reminds me of the "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful" commercial from years ago. No, we didn't hate you because you were beautiful, we hated you because you were a bitch.

Same with KG. We don't hate you because you're winning.
There are plenty of other reasons of his own doing that make him unlikable.

You know what's odd? All the Youtube entries for that Garnett-McDyess fight were forced to be taken down for copyright reasons.........as well as lots of other fights.......me wonders if Mr. Stern has an IT department going around trying to clean up that stuff.

you guys are right it is kinda punkish. But it must have a positive effect on his team because I really think they feed off that. His "antics" have really changed the culture and gave the celtics some "swagger." I'm a little biased because im a huge KG fan and also a Raptor fan. As a raptor fan i desperately want a player like him since our team is uber-soft. But i can definately see how people think hes a punk and hate his antics. I think he talks so much **** to pump himself up though and if it works for him, i can't really blame him for doing it.
