(1) Trade Wally, Snow, Smith, and Jones (all expirings) for JET, Stack, and Damp.

(2) I don't see equal value for Howard from the Cavs. #19, Varejao, and Gibson would be a start, but that's not exactly what I'm looking for. I'd probably take it, though, if you agreed to trade (1).

I dont mind the expirings part, but the Mavs would need a center, so I think Big Z would have to be involved.

One more reason to trade Dirk...

Right now, the two best teams in the East (arguably) are also two of the oldest: Boston and Detroit. The core of those teams will be declining in the coming years, if they haven't already (in Detroit's case). And Boston proved that you could go from the cellar to the ceiling in a single year if you play your cards (young players and picks) properly.

Thus, I'd say there are a ton of teams in the East that could make a deal of young players and picks for Dirk and wind up in the top 4 teams in the EC. The Heat, Bulls, Bobcats, and Pacers could all potentially do that. Plus, there are several playoff teams out there that could pair Dirk with their star player and certainly be more of a contender than they are now: Atlanta, Philly, and Orlando to name a few.

And since there's nobody else anywhere near Dirk's ability on the trade market this offseason (that I can tell), his price could be fairly high. Just food for thought.

besides the obvious spares on the team, the first person I would shop is Josh Howard.

Maybe for a low post player.

He can't be the second best option on a contending team and that's been shown time and again even before this turd of a series he laid on the team.
Especially disconcerting is the fact that he simply didn't give a s h i t, and we don't need another loser mentality on this team.

If we trade Dirk, then I want to also trade Josh, get something for Kidd's expirings, trade Stack, get rid of Damp etc basically try to get rid of everyone but Bass.
Obviously easier said than done, but FIRSTLY all the OLD SCRUBS need to go.

Appearently you either 1) Have not read all the Dirk trade proposals on the trade forum that are better than yours or 2) You are on some Magic homeraid.

Those last 4 may get you Jason Terry and as you said, Hedo is an expiring and would not be worth anything more than that to a rebuilding team.

Release/Don't resign Juwan, Eddie (use him as trade filler if you can).

Buy a couple picks from teams that have extra (Portland) and draft a PG

Blow it up maybe we get a lottery pick next year then come back re-tooled the year after.

i'd follow this plan but with the following additions:

add JET to the possible trade list

resign George with Bird rights because at the least he is a decent player who can fill many roles off the bench

don't be afraid to trade Bass if you're keeping Dirk and can use him to get top talent now; unless you're totally blowing this thing up and getting rid of Dirk then there is no reason to think that you have to have Bass (i prefer to keep Bass if possible but am not opposed to him being included in a major deal)

JES12 wrote:On the trade forum, a Clipper fan proposed Howard + Terry for Maggette, Mobley, 2008 pick (most likely #7) and 2010 pick.

While on the surface, that may not be too palatable, I like it cuz
1) We keep Dirk
2) We keep Bass
3) Mobley expires the same year as Dampier
4) We can combine that #7 pick with Stack's near expiring for Artest, Mike Miller or if we add a S&T George, we can get Redd or Carter.

Then we would look like:
Dampier
Dirk
Maggette
Artest/Miller/Carter/Redd
Kidd
6th man...Bass
7th man...Mobley

Of course our MLE would need to be used on depth, but our top 6 would look good.

that is a deal I would consider for sure

Yes we wont get Harris, Diop and picks, but consider that everyone said that was a bad trade to begin with and we overpaided. Kidd is not a huge expiring contract and if we rebuild, then we keep him this year and allow him to expire. Maybe we can get a team like Portland to trade us Raef LaFrentz's expiring contract + a pick/1 young player or do the same with CLE, ORL, ect. But he would be fine to say here and expire, to give up cap space.

Dirk and Howard both have value and many teams would LOVE LOVE LOVE to get them. Dampier (2 yrs) and Terry (4 yrs) are still productive players, but their contracts hurt them, but we could easily package them with Dirk and Howard to get rid of them.

I could see the Bulls making a huge push for Dirk if they land a top 2 pick.

Bulls Trade: Tyrus Thomas, Michael Beasley/Derrick Rose, and Larry Hughes for Dirk Nowitzki.

I think rebuilding would be a good idea. Maybe tank next season in hopes of nabbing a top 5 lottery pick? But I don't see how that would happen with Jason Kidd and Dirk Nowitski in the lineup. These are really talented basketball players. Whatever management does, Dallas Mavericks are a wonderful team. I hope that someday this franchise will be able to go all the way. :D
