Nothing but a championship will resolve the situation. Cleveland went to the NBA Finals. Did anyone think that Hughes contract was now justified because Lebron James carried them to the finals.
Last year Ben Wallace helped the Bulls finally get to the second round. You could say there no way they would have taken out the Heat without Ben Wallace defense in the first round. He helped but it still didn't justify his contract.
Rashard is lucky to sign with Orlando because most big cities would crucify him. Here you can get one of the biggest contract in sports history just to help.
I would bet many fans on this board were very critical of the Wallace signing and Hughes signing despite there team success. Despite the fact they were integral parts of there team improving. Reason being we all know that they could be much better if that money was better invested. Now were in the same situation that those teams were in.

This is not a point to justify Lewis contract. But isn't Lewis much younger in comparison to Hughes and Ben's contract. Both players were on the twilight era of their career. In theory we have Lewis all through his prime years.
Not justify his contract...just his usefulness that you may have not taken into account.

That is lame to compare Lewis to Hughes or Wallace. Lame and frankly ignorant. Those two didn't even put up AVERAGE numbers for their teams, where as Shard has been a HUGE contributor to this teams success. They were dead weights around their teams necks in terms of improvement, where as Shard is an invaluable (or $118 mil valuable) cog in this teams success. You are really, really getting desperate if you have to make such blatantly horrible comparisons to try and make your point.

You can't judge the Lewis contract until it's body of work is complete.
I'm not a fan of the terms, but it's done.
Nobody knows as of now whether or not the acquisition of Lewis will or will not be worthwhile to the Magic and their success.
Nobody.

If Lewis makes the good ahead shot to win us a championship......does that justify his contract?
Yeah dumb question had to ask.

Ignorant? Your post doesn't even make sense. Ben Wallace put up pretty much the same numbers his first year in Chicago that he did in his last year in Detroit. What would you consider average numbers for his team.
First year Bulls
6 pts
11 rbs
2 blks
Last year Pistons
7 pts
11 rbs
2 blks
He played closer to his average than Rashard did.
Larry Hughes lost about 5 points per game on his scoring average by leaving Washington. Rashard lost 4 points per game on his average this year. Hughes was going from a up tempo team to one of the slowest teams in the league. To say Hughes wasn't even an average contributor. He was there second leading scorer and perhaps there second best perimeter defender. His play at PG was often considered the reason why they finished the season strong last year.
Remember Rashard makes much more than both these guys. Matter of fact the two combined just make a few more than Rashard Lewis. To say well Rashard is invaluable. Thats just a fanboy perspective. You could say Ben Wallace and Larry Hughes were invaluable in how they help there ball clubs. We all know that if those teams truly got there money worth they would be much better ball clubs.
Rashard is giving 18 points per game which is pretty much it. Thank ranks him the 65th best scorer in the NBA by per minute. Which would make Rashard a slightly better than average third scoring option. Last year Rashard was 26th in points per minute. Which would make him a great number 2 or a below average number 1 option. The idea that we could be paying 20 million per year for a third option definitely means that you could put him in that group. Whats scary is if this team improved there SG position its possible he may have a tough time matching the 18 points per game next year and could even turn into a number 4.

Way to beat a dead horse.
Didnt we all agree about 9 months ago that the contract was horrible?
Are we not just arguing varying levels of how much or little we accept it rather than like it.
I cant imagine any Magic fan liking it. But after a 52-30 season, our first playoff series win in 12 years and being the only team in the East playoff's actually on a day off; I dont think things are to bleak right now; and I dont see them getting much worse for the next couple of years.

Hughes PER 04/05 21.63; 05/06? 14.08
14.08 is considered below the league average. That was his first year in Cleveland.
Ben Wallace PER 05/06 17.54; 06/07? 14.59
Still want to make that comparison? They both barely contributed at levels worthy of an average starter in this league for their new teams.

This, and the Tracy McGrady thread, are completely useless.
Can't we discuss this crap during the offseason? We actually have useful things to discuss right now..

no way bro i'd rather be like this other cat and dwell on all the negative things going on and not appreciate us getting to the second round for the first time in 12 years.... its much more fun to moan and complain about players not living up to contracts that i actually have no part in paying....

Your point is
Rashard 16.7 which makes him slightly above average. Not that much better than those 2. Now look at there contracts size. His contract is much bigger than both of them.
