Dirk vs Yao, who would you rather have?

I would take Yao if he didn't have so many health concerns. But it would still be close.

Umm, this one is Dirk easily. Dirk just won an MVP, took his team to the finals, has been winning big as a franchise guy for years now, and has shown that he can beat the Spurs. He's the MAN.

(As a side note, I just started posting on this forum, player comparisons that is, and I am finding it rather shallow. Not much to really say outside of throwing stats out there or making subjective judgments of likes or dislikes. Maybe it's just me...)

Dirk Nowitzki 27 PPG, 12 RPG, 4 APG, 1.5 BPG, 47% FG, 33,3% 3pt FG

Now do you honestly think Yao would have been able to keep up with the Hornets?

Dirk gets hated too much, I don't like the guy, but I respect him. He isn't a choker as much as everyone perceives him to be, I mean the guy led his team to the finals over SA and was huge in Game 7. I agree he hasn't come up big in the finals and last years playoffs, BUT he's had other big time playoff series.

Even this season, he was very good, just didn't get enough help against a better team.

26.8 points per game
12.0 rebounds per game
4.0 assists per game
1.4 blocks per game
47 FG%

Yao honestly hasn't had a series like that and hasn't led his team as far as Dirk has.

Saying all that I'd probably take Yao because I prefer his low post game and ability to impact the game on the both ends of the floor BUT it's definitely not "easily" especially when considering durability.

Each player brings different things to the table.

If I'm starting a franchise I choose Yao easily.

You take Dirk if you're looking for a player to spread the floor on offense. He is a big match up problem because he can beat you in so many ways.

Yao on the other hand has had problems when players front him. You can bait Yao into taking 17 footers.

But Yao WOULDN'T offer a different result than losing. Yao wouldn't have put up the 27/12 that Dirk put up, and Dallas would have been swept. Seriously, Yao puts up numbers but has so little impact on games for a superstar. Can you honestly say that Houston has missed Yao? Because I can't. Houston is playing better WITHOUT Yao than with him whereas the Mavs are about as good as Seattle without Dirk.

That is completely not true
