Off the Ledge?

Post#1 » by Gomes3PC » Thu May 1, 2008 4:00 am

Many of you guys back off the ledge, or at least a step further away? This was a complete game and IMO it will carry to the next game for a series clincher. We trapped JJ, out rebounded them when it mattered, stayed out of serious foul woes, got positive bench minutes, and most importantly were HUNGRIER.

The teams in the playoffs are too good to coast to a W. You need to want it more, bar none. We did tonight and played a levelheaded, 48 minute game

Like I said earlier- we didn't need to change, we needed to just be better. Quicker rotations, crisper passes, harder drives. You saw all that tonight. Game 4 was the wakeup call for Boston.

Thankfully, Cleveland lost tonight too, meaning they won't get any more rest than us if/when we move on.

I would have said the same thing except that we blew games 3 and 4 after looking the same for the first two games.

Never on the ledge, but admittedly I tend to post only when I have criticisms these days. I was happy to see the return of the attacking Paul Pierce last night. I believe that is intregal to the ultimate success this team will have in the postseason. Jump shooting teams are prone to cold spells.

The concept that KG needs to "step it up" or attempt to score more in the post, IMO, was ill-conceived as low post scoring simply is not one of his premium traits. He has a finesse offensive game. So, it's my observation that Pierce is the single most important variable for this team in the playoffs, all things remaining consistent to what we've come to expect from regular season play (i.e. defense, rebounding, ball control, etc).

Defense was on point. Rondo continues to protect the basketball. I have minor quibbles with what I perceive to be lack of boxing out for rebounds by KG, Perk, and Pierce allowing the Hawks players to gain position and use their length to take the ball. But, overall, I remain psyched about this season and playing playoff basketball.

Can we also give Doc some credit? He runs our offensive setups and he totally outcoached Woodson today. Atlanta was zoning and switching so Doc did the perfect thing- pick with Pierce on Bibby at the top of the key and isolate him to drive or dish on the collapsing zone. We also got aggressive and kept Smith and co from fast breaking, while still hitting the glass well.

You want to criticize when he does poorly, give props when he outcoaches the opponent too.

Give Doc credit? Never! He sucks! He's a (Please Use More Appropriate Word)! He'll never be a winner! The victory was all Thibideau. Doc is just a puppet and a figurehead for the media. The players hate him! He ruins young players! He ruins veterans! He sucks! Hire Avery and D'Antoni and Rick Carlisle just for the hell of it!
