Trade For Corey Maggette

Post#1 » by zerobuffalo » Thu May 1, 2008 1:34 am

Trade Josh Howard for Corey Maggette and we are a better team. The CLippers will lose him for sure so they should love a good trade. We need someone who will attack the rim (680 FT attempts almost dbl Howards) and get to the free throw line and in the trade below we can also get a 2 guard and lose the injury waiting to happen Stackhouse.

With this trade we start Kidd, Mobley, Maggette, Dirk, and Damp (or hopefully someone else who can catch) and we have Terry and Bass off the bench. That is a better team than this year.

The Clippers get a good player in his prime who is under contract for years in Howard.

Incoming Players
Cuttino Mobley
6-4 SG from Rhode Island
12.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.6 apg in 35.1 minutes
Corey Maggette
6-6 SF from Duke
22.1 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.7 apg in 35.7 minutes

Outgoing Players
Josh Howard
6-5 SG / SF from Wake Forrest
19.7 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 2.1 apg in 35.9 minutes
Jerry Stackhouse
6-6 SG / SF from North Carolina
10.7 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 2.5 apg in 24.4 minutes
Eddie Jones
6-6 SG / SF from Temple
3.7 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.5 apg in 19.6 minutes

i'd rather try to somehow convince Maggette to take the mid-level exception and join the team as is.

Kidd
Maggette
JHo
Dirk
Damp

then trade scrubs for bench guys from a team looking for expirings or to get rid of a head case. maybe get a ricky davis or something to be on the bench? or sign young guys, like when gerald green was released, that center from Sac, Sean Livingston etc

I want to see JHo under a new coach before I sell low on him.

As previously stated, a Clipper fan proposed Howard + Terry for Maggette + Mobley + #7 draft pick + 2010 1st. That a good deal IMO, but a straight up trade is selling low.

I'd like the Mavericks to get a true slashing SG. Maggette isn't far off. I just don't like the Terry/Kidd backcourt as Kidd isn't the defender he once was.

I like the deal JES12 posted.

Whooo hooo would I love that. Maggette, Mobley, and 2 draft picks for Howie and Terrwie. Maggette would be the 2 we need and we could get Gallinari or by trading down and we could get a 2 for 1 and still pick up a SF with a high draft pick to replace Howard so we could use Mags as a 2 while developing a couple semi high draft picks. We really need someone else other than Dampier and we can sign a FA PG to back Kidd up like Udrih and sign Kwame and or Earl Barron to assist Dampier as a backup. Resign A Wright for sure.

Dampier Brown,K
Dirk Bass Barron,E
high pick like Donte Green or Gallinari A Wright R Terry
Maggette Mobley Terry
Kidd Udrih high pick like Westbrook or Lue and we go after Gallinari

Yeah if we could turn Clippers 6th pick into a star or 2 that would be cool. Westbrook and Green by trading down or going straight for a Gallinari to play big SF and replace Howard.

doubt it happens but we can dream.

I was kinda thinking we could use Stack's virtual expiring + the #7 to pull a Ray Allen type trade for Artest, Mike Miller or add in George for Redd or Carter. With Kidd & Maggette, I'd prefer Miller or Redd.

I wish JES12 were the manager... Those trades would make the Mav amazing, but I dont think the Clips would pull the trigger on that trade.... It seems like way too much for them to give up

I'm 100% to go for artest.
Let's take a risk, we have too anyway.

I am starting to lean to the talented head cases of the NBA: Artest, Sheed, et al...
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

DAL should be able to get more for Howard than just Maggette.
Maggette would be an improvement at SG, though

I'd like to see us be able to use Howard and Terry (plus whatever) to pick up Marion and Maggette. Put Maggette at SG and Shawn at SF. Improves our rebounding, gets us to the ft line more, doesn't hurt our defense. Get a backup C who can score some. That's as good a lineup as we've played for a while.

Which one of these lineups seems more talented to you?

Damp
Nowitzki
Howard
Terry
Harris

or

Damp
Nowitzki
Marion
Maggette
Kidd

Get a coach who can make them play some defense. That could work, and we try to make use of Dirk's prime years.

Clipper fan here.

I would definitely pull the trigger on this deal. Maggette would thrive with a REAL PG in Kidd and he doesn't have to be the 1st option on offense(he's more of a 2nd or 3rd option). Howard would do wonders with the Clips, my question is: can he play SG?

I thought of this trade on a different board for the Mavs to go after Corey Maggette to finally give Dirk a true second option that he hasn't had since Michael Finley.

But instead of dealing Josh Howard to a team that is desperate for a PG and looking to move Al Thornton into the starting SF role, I was thinking Jason Terry.

Clippers
PG Terry/Livingston
SG Lotto/Mobley
SF Thornton/Ross
PF Brand/Thomas
C Kaman/Brand

Mavs
PG Kidd/Baera
SG Maggette/Stack
SF Howard/Maggette
PF Dirk/Bass
C Dampier/Diop< re-signed?

I think Livingston and Terry would be a pretty good combo in the backcourt. Terry is more of a 2 than a 1 but Livingston has the size to defend the bigger SGs that Terry struggles with.
Terry would be a great pickup for the Clips in the right deal.

Terry for Maggette has been mentioned numerous times on this board in the past 12 months. That would be a great trade for both teams imo.

I personally like this trade the most, but I don't see them giving up two 1st rounders when next year is going to be another rebuilding year for them, so I will take only this years pick. The only problem is that the Clippers will likely wait until after the lottery to trade it in case they somehow get the 1st or 2nd pick (Portland had a 5.3% chance of getting it and they did, so anything is possible) I think anything under the number 2 pick they deal. With Beasley and Rose, you get an instant contributor and soon to be star. Mayo has the chance to be one, but I don't think the Clippers would want him as they will need more of a bigger guy since Brand is likely gone.

Personally, with the right coach (Carlisle or Saunders), I would LOVE to have O.J. Mayo on our team. Mayo already has the scoring ability, but at times gets lazy on defense and tries to make it a one man show. With those two coaches having defense and teamwork as their two main strong points, having guys like Kidd, Dirk, Mobley, and Maggette to help teach him the ropes, I think Mayo could become a star and thrive on this team.

Which would give us:

PG: Kidd/Lue/Barea
SG: Mobley/Mayo/Stack
SF: Maggette/Pietrus (MLE)
PF: Dirk/Bass
C: Damp/Diop (re-sign hopefully)

Drop the 2010 1st and i'm inclined to agree.

You're all insane to think Howard is THAT MUCH better than Maggette. Howard is great and all-star caliber but come on, 2 #1s including a guaranteed lotto???

Maggette 22.1 ppg
JHoward 19.9

JHoward 7.0 rpg
Maggette 5.6

Maggette 2.7 apg
JHoward 2.2

Maggette 1.0 spg
JHoward 0.8

JHoward 0.4 bpg
Maggette 0.1

Maggette .458 fg%
JHoward .455

Maggette .384 3p%
JHoward .319

JHoward .813 ft%
Maggette .812

Point is, the numbers are very close but everyone knows Josh is better because his D is better. But not lottery picks better.

Plus Terry doesn't blow Mobley out of the water either in the same categories, and Mobley is cheaper with two less yrs on the deal.
