Can we just save all the Doc talk until after the playoffs

Post#1 » by Hemingway » Thu May 1, 2008 5:40 pm

It is getting heard to move around here. I feel like I'm knee deep in comments like, "We need to fire Doc NOW" and "We are a long shot at best with Doc." Can we just give the guy a break. I mean what is the point in making all these claims right now when we are in the playoffs. This is the first team with a real chance Doc has ever had, and he coached us to 66 wins in the regular season, so can we give him just a tiny bit of slack?

I agree. Too many reactionary posts around here. Doc isn't perfect, but he isn't a bad coach either and everything isn't always his fault when it doesn't go right.

Sure, let`s ban every poster who dares to write a critique about one of our players or the coach. No negative posts or discussions should be allowed because we won 66 games!

he reminds me of Francona the first year we won the the world series, a guy who shouldve been fired but was lucky enough to manage a team with a lot of talent.

Yes...it can't all be Doc's fault when things go bad and Tom Thib's credit when they go well.

So much man-love for the Thibs and too much hate for the Doc!

I think that is fair, but frankly I think coaches are pretty overrated a lot of the time. It is no mistake that the teams that win championships have top talent and veteran players who are savvy. I think more than anything they just help manage personalities and give them some direction.

It's understandable. People worry. I think one thing this series is showing us that many have forgotten is just how huge home court advantage can be in the playoffs. If Doc starts dropping games at home THAT is when I'd start panicking.

Don't you realize that the Celtics would have gone 82-0 during the regular season and swept the Hawks if Doc Rivers wasn't the coach.

All this Doc Rivers needs to go talk is just foolishness.

I agree people are way to hard on Doc Rivers, he coaches this team well and his system makes for a very enjoyable brand of basketball as well.

Maybe Jim O'Brien, Rick Carlisle, Jeff Van Gundy win 68 games instead of 66 games and we might've swept the Hawks playing that style of ball but would really want to watch that grind it out crap all the time again?

He has consistently gotten his teams to play hard and he develops his youth and bench.

^^But of course! 8)

And CelticGamecock, you're right, coaches are overrated. How much did Phil Jackson win without Shaq prior to this year? Or without Jordan?

damn straight. let me know when its no longer a sin to criticize KG and i'll crawl out from under the rock where i've been hiding since i dared say that KG's "intensity" gives him a get out jail free card for a lot soft play. just becuase he beats his chest and acts like an **** doesn't means he's tough.

So many Celtics "fans" on this board who never have a positive thing to say about the team/coaches. Why are these "fans" even on here? Following the team for them must be like self-inflicted torture

^^Pete, I responded to you saying the same thing in another thread, but you're right. They are the self-loathing fans, which I like to think of as the Democrats of messageboards.

Not "fans" except in their own mind. I hope we're winning many games for the next 10 seasons so we don't have to deal with them!
