Rocky, you know if you were the Hawks fan, you also have a major gripe about foul calls such as that 2nd foul on Joe Johnson when he "pushed off" Powe that led to him being taken out early in the game.
So stop being a bitch. It's getting tiresome and making the Celtics' fans look like a bunch of pathetic cry babies.

My guess is that NBA uses "points of emphasis" to control games to some extent. That is they don't say - make the Hawks win.
They say something like :
"Watch for players charging into the lane. Of note was several fouls that should have been called charge in the last contest called on Paul Pierce"
In this way bam - a whole bunch of phony offensive fouls are bound to show up. I don't think there is some anti-Celtic conspiracy afoot though. I wouldn't doubt though that the higher ups would prefer 'compettiive" games.
But I think the bad calls are just officials looking too hard for what they THINK happened.

Nice analysis, Pete. I like that explanation, you're probably right.
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

I agree wholeheartedly. Especially the second paragraph.
And please lets not cite to Tommy if we want to have an unbiased debate about the officiating. Tommy flipped out about the refs calling a block because he said the refs didn't want to call three charges in a row. Well face it, if Tommy had his way, the refs would call 100 charges in a row, and as long as they were all against the other team, Tommy would think they were great calls. A block/charge call is such a toss up that its just naturally very rare that your gonna get three in a row going one way. It's like flipping a coin three times in a row and getting heads each time.
The same thing is true with players getting called for reaches in the lane. Cry all you want about Cassell or Perk getting whistled for reaches when they got all ball, but try to put yourself in the officials shoes. Pretty much every time they see an arm go straight down on someone while they are driving the lane, there is a presumption a foul is committed because it's pretty hard to do that without getting some part of the players arm as well. Refs see players hack straight down and its a red flag that a foul was committed, and I figure they are generally right on that presumption. I swear some of you guys expect them to go over and CSI the basketball and the player to see where the defenders fingertips hit.

I think it's just better to accept that each own team's fans is going to think they were the ones who got screwed over by the refs. Its when you try telling an opposing team's fans that they are wrong, and you are right, thats when the real problems come with perceptions. Us celtic fans, we think as ourselves as very knowledgeable people. Problem is that other nba fans think they are just as much as we do and so we come off as arrogant.
So its probably just better to sit in our own forum and complain, because theyre doing it just as much over in their little forum. Its when fans start posting on other boards and the general boards that ALL(not just celtic fans) come up as whiney babies.
specially piston fans. y'all suck.
Edit:
Basically, I'm a fan of a team and I can complain as much as I want. But, i'm not going to be surprised or get angry when other people of other teams dont see it the way i see it. And therefore, i'm not going to try to convince them about officiating. Darth was just pointing out someting that we've all noticed going on in the games, on a celtic forum. If some other person who has nothing better to do feels like going on here and thinking we are babies cos we're not getting calls, thats their problem.
p.s. tombattor yer my favorite poster on this board. keep it real, son.

re: this thread... about **** time.
I've seen reggie evens get knocked to the floor, and as he pushed himself off the floor and stands up, an offensive foul is called on him.
Shaq's fifth foul came from Tim Duncan clearly tripping over his own feet roughly a yard from shaq's leg only to have a trip called.
Carmello Anthony fouled out in an elimination game for standing next to Kobe Bryant on the perimeter
Rip hamilton grabs more jersey then the all the HS hoes chasing after lebron/kobe/scalabrine in the day combined.
The difference in treatment between Nash (who's jersey was held 70% of the time) & Parker (who's gangly arms flailed like a giant wind sock thing everytime he drove the lane) is absolutely migraine inducing.
Let me reemphasize point one, Reggie Evans got knocked down by a Piston's screen, w/o touching (free within a 1ft bubble) anyone, he gets up and is whistled for an offensive foul.
My buddies and I have almost quit watching this ****. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but no way the refs treat the spurs, pistons, kobe, LBJ, like they treat the rest of the league. Despite our big 3, the receive the bare minimum of star calls,... bull.

In 50 years I imagine they could solve most officiating issues. What they could do is wire guys up with thin sensors all over their bodies (kinda like the detectors they use in boxing) then they can track everything in real time. The sensors would have to be pressure sensitive and respond to GPS.
Then we can see if guys feet are moving, if who crashed into what - if they were outside the three point line and so on.
I doubt the NBA cares enough to do sometihng like that though.

If they are trying to promote good basketball, why are they mucking up good games by making horrible calls?
i said that the nba is not about promoting good basketball but instead about promoting spectacular entertainment. the refs and the superstar system are the two major factors determining that.

Exactly why NCAA is better to watch. They dont favor "stars" if you dont know what i mean watch a Cavs or lakers game and just see the calls Lebron and Kobe get. They are also much more consistant with their calls.
Dont get me wrong the talent is far superior in the NBA but theres no flow due to all the whistles. Watch a C's game in the 80's and see the difference in what a foul is......its turned into high school girls hockey no touching allowed!!

Yep, it's almost insane that the NCAA has better refereeing than the NBA.
