Dallas is a team that I could see major changes from because they barely made the playoffs.

Phoe has some players who would be difficult to move. They are probably going for a philosophy shift if when D Antoni leaves.

I could see GS going for Phoenix discards.

The Mavs front office believes they have the most talented roster in the Cuban era. So look for them to act accordingly, which means (a) they get rid of a coach that has clearly "lost" the team, and (b) there won't be a fire sale and a massive rebuild. There may be changes, but it looks like they'll do things in the expectation of being better next year not worse.

I look for D'Antoni to land on the Raptors.

He and Colangelo seem to work well together.

I Think Gump is right about the Suns that there roster has good talent under contract, and they are getting old so there window is closing.

I also think out of the 3 teams we're discussing here, the Suns would be a logical choice for Harrington. I see Harrington as a fit with what they currently have, not a replacement.

Not likely a deal there, but he could pique their interest.

FGump- They only have 7 signed, but only 6 that actually play. Hill has a player option of 2 million and he might retire, go elsewhere, or the suns might trade him if he doesn't opt out. The Suns need to impove their bench. They need to spend at least 6-10 million, so will see if they are willing to go way over the cap and pay the lux tax.

Phoenix at least started playing well at the end of the season. Both teams have no cap space, but that's no different than most decent teams.

I think Dallas is the bigger question mark, because while the Suns had to change their style midseason and adjust to Shaq, Kidd was supposed to come in and make an immediate impact. We already knew Shaq was creaky (but Suns took him because he's a center), but Kidd seemed just as creaky too (worse for a PG.)

I don't think either team has to blow things up. But they will need some luck to compete in the West next year. Look at the Lakers- everyone was wondering if that team would get blown up, and now they're in the driver's seat of the NBA. They could easily win the next 3 titles now.

Funning how our fans think those teams are doom when we are not even better, other than GSW having a young team where our coach would not use most of them.

Difference is that Phoenix has some pieces which can be moved rather eaasily (namely Nash) with some pretty good value likely coming back in return, wheras Kidd (at this point in his career and based on what he showed/didn't show during the playoffs) will be a much tougher sell.

Kevin, slice it however you want, but they have EVERYONE under contract for next year except:
Piatkowski
Marks
Skinner
L Johnson

And I don't see any of those as tough to replace, do you??????????????

Therefore, they should AT LEAST easily have the same talent base next year as this one. (Yes Hill could leave, but all indications are that he loves it there.) Counting Hill, they have a nine-man roster all lined up.

Sure Sarver probably won't spend. That's not new. But all he has to do is spend the minimum to replace those 4. If he steps outside of that, they'll be able to use the MLE if they want to, to add some talent to that full returning base.

They don't have a lottery pick like we do.

FGump- The point I am trying to make is they won 55 games last season and had the best record until they made the trade. How many games can they win next year with Nash & Shaq on the deline? You know Shaq is going to miss a bunch of games and the West should be even tougher if the Clips get healthy, Portland with Oden, and Yao back. Marion missed 1 game with the Suns last yr.

Kevin, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

In my opinion, the (ONLY) problem Phoenix has is age. But any team with Shaq, Nash, and Amare in the starting lineup is incredibly talented, and then on top of that they'll have Bell, Barbosa, Diaw, Hill, Strawberry, Tucker to build around. Age is a problem. But "having enough talented players" shouldn't be.

The problem with phoenix is they take half the game off... the defensive half. Age wouldnt have been a problem if they played D (namely nash and amare).
