Maybe the Suns didn't win a championship, but we'll remember them 100 times more fondly than the brutally efficient and hopelessly bland Spurs, who taught everyone over the years that the regular season doesn't matter, transformed the NBA Playoffs into a flopathon, revived the vile and fan-unfriendly Hack-A-Shaq strategy and did everything short of sending Bruce Bowen out on the court with a chainsaw and a taser. If the Spurs were the Team of the Decade, no wonder ratings dwindled until the league's big comeback this season. The real shame is that all the mugging, acting, eye-rolling, flopping, rule-bending and hysterical shrugging obscured what should have been remembered as a throwback sports team, a shrewdly assembled roster of well-coached guys who played beautifully together, didn't care about credit and revolved around the best power forward who ever played. Instead, we'll remember them as the team that turned the NBA Playoffs into the World Cup. Congratulations, fellas.

Well said Simmons...........well said............

That was a pretty good article. Mind boggling when you see everything layed out in detail like that.

A- freakin'- men. When the Sports Guy sees things my way, strange things are definitely afoot! I have less than zero respect for a team that relies on the refs and the league to win.

I say again- Ladies and gentlemen, your San Antonio Sterns!!!

Jesus christ. I'm glad I live on the first floor. Simmons is my fav sports writer, and he has always had a fondness for the Suns. It breaks my heart to read that.

Especially when he compares Diaw and Banks salaries being the same as JJ..

AHHH!!!! *starts to load shotgun*

I'm flying out to phx to find Sarver. Whos with me!?

Sad. D'antoni ruined this team with poor decisions

Best Simmons article in a while. Overall really well-written and on point. The only hint of Simmons Douchiness was him trying to claim in the same column that:

1) Last year's Suns-Spurs series was a fait accompi for the Spurs;

2) This year's Suns-Spurs series was a "could-have-gone-either-way series"

That's because he picked the Spurs last year and the Suns this year, and he likes to rearrange reality as much as he can to coincide with what he wants to happen.

But yeah, that's a minor quibble. A great read overall. I think I might send it to some non-fan friends to help them understand what we've been through.

Even after reading that and being sad at the moves the office has made.. it makes me proud that beyond all that our Suns have played their hearts out and have given us and themselves an oppurtonity to compete for the Championship every year.

Yeah, somehow they've managed to compete even though they have a completely inept front office.

The front office isn't "inept", they're actually doin a great job at exactly what it is they wanna do, stack up on the friggin cash!

The pick that wuda been Iggy, Sergio Rodriguez, Rajon Rondo, Rudy Fernandez... I'm sure they're gettin orgasms off of all the money they made by selling em, just like they must've been thrilled as hell when they dumped James Jones and KT, and Shaq sells more jerseys then Marion!

I mean Sarver was a fuggin bank owner before he took over the Suns... A MUTHA-FARKIN BANK OWNER!! That says it alll

*sighs*

It's a pretty depressing day to be a Suns fan. The future looks even bleaker than the present. Those of us who ranted endlessly about the dumping of draft picks are seeing the depressing scenario that we correctly depicted.
