Batum = Mickael Pietrus?

Post#1 » by gswhoops » Wed Apr 30, 2008 5:39 am

I've always thought that Batum was overrated, and this kind of sealed the deal for me. Read these two and tell me they don't sound eerily similar:

Batum
Strengths: Agile forward with size, an incredible wingspan, and great all around skills

I don't really see it. Other than the long arms, needing to add muscle, athleticism, and French background where are they similar?

Pietrus did get stronger, which is one of the points of basis for comparison. His problem is just that he never got smarter.

I think both have potentially a similar physical profile, are good defenders and come into the league struggling with their perimeter shot. However, in terms of ability to create game off the dribble and basketball IQ, there's no possible comparision: Batum blows Pietrus out of the water.

Fair comparison. I think Batum will be more than what Pietrus has been so far though. Batum I've read has been a little sheepish on offense though.

Batum strikes me as someone that has more basketball skills, is more fluid and who has a better feel for the game (not a Pietrus strong suit).

this comparison is way off... their IQ isn't comparable at all... and that's visible within 5 minutes of game or so...

Is "more athletic Tayshaun Prince" stereotyping too much?

Who was it that compared him to Rudy Gay? I think some site did. That might be close to?

Well there you go. :D

And Rudy Gay is much, much better and much, much more desirable than Michael Pietrus.

Have you ever seen Batum play? He's really not very similar to Pietrus at all.

You might call it a stretch, but I really see a Grant Hill comparison. They're about the same size and athleticism, and they're both point forwards. Plus the lack of 3pt range.
