Dwight Howard = Young Shaq. Chris Bosh = Kevin Garnett?

Post#1 » by carlos1223 » Thu May 1, 2008 8:48 pm

Does anyone else feel this way? Dwight's game is similar to Shaq' a post player who gets a lot of his points from dunking and being close to the rim. He is a poor free throw shooter.
Bosh is a jumpshooting PF kind of like KG and he is thin so he doesn't really use his size to post up like Dwight.

The main differences are there personalities. Dwight's personality seems similar to David Robinson. Always smiling. Shaq was arrogant as hell. Bosh is also more humble than KG has shown to be since he was traded to Boston...but a little sensitive in the sense that he was "offended" by Screamin A Smith's comments.

Thoughts?

Dwight is pretty whiny, appears spoiled and seems a bit immature.

Dwight doesn't have the offensive moves or passing skills Shaq does/did.

Bosh plays similar to Bosh offensively, but isn't nearly the passer or defender Garnett was, and Garnett did go into the post a tad more often.

They are similar, but not that similar.

Bosh is no KG, especially on defense.

KG's all-around game is so much more dominating than Bosh's.

Dwight is the closest thing to the next Shaq, but he doesn't have the offensive IQ of Shaq.

Bosh isn't a great passer, defender or leader. On the offensive side of the court he is lack a young KG.

Dwight isn't the offensive force Shaq was , nor passing, nor shot blocker that a young Shaq was. Dwight is a better rebounder though.

Bosh reminds me more of Antwan Jamison than Kevin Garnett... Well... He's a more perimeter version of Jamison, Jamison is fairly perimeter oriented as it is but at least he has some pretty crafty moves around the basket.

To me, Bosh is more like david robinson on offense. lefty, lol.

No, but seriously, he's like robinson in that he does have post moves, but does a lot more damage facing up, shooting his very good jumper, slashing, and getting to the line. robinson was a pretty good passer, though bosh is no slouch. On d, he ain't drob...at all.

and yea, howard is closest to young shaq, but hes not as good as young shaq for the reasons that have already been said.

Interesting stuff.

The Bosh/KG argument was tired years ago; it wasn't right then and it's not right now. Bosh has the scoring game of a young Garnett; face-up drives and jumpers from 15-22 feet, but he doesn't have the rebounding, passing or defense of Garnett, let alone the kind of post scoring skills KG displays.

He's not the same kind of player; he's a 7-foot small forward, pretty much. Very good player but not really at all like Garnett, most especially not Garnett over the last 6, 7 years.

Dwight is indeed a lot like a young Shaq, though his footwork isn't as good, his passing isn't as good and he's not as physically dominant.

That said, Dwight's now around the age Shaq was when he hit the league and Shaq evidenced considerable improvement in his passing abilities at the end of his tenure in Orlando and certainly in Tex Winter's triple-post offense. And Stan is doing good things for Dwight, so that's promising as far as his development.

Shaq was a good 15 to 20 pounds heavier and 2 inches taller than Dwight though, so let's not forget that, eh? Shaq had a more polished offensive game.

:noway:

sigh yet another uninformed opinion

Jamison's game consists of 70% jumpers, Bosh's offense consists of only 58% of his shots being jumpers. Bosh is one of the best at driving to the rim and not settling for the jumper at the 4 spot.

There goes that theory.

I think you have him confused with Shaq. Dwight is one of the nicest guys in the NBA. Between him, Yao, and Oden, the NBA is in good hands.

Dwight is closer to Shaq than Bosh is to KG.
