If we trade Howard...

Post#1 » by creative1 » Fri May 2, 2008 3:31 am

I think this should be who we should pursue in order:

Marion
Artest
Camby
J. Smith (don't know if he would be available)

You think we could get any of these guys? I'd send anyone but Dirk to get any of those guys. Thoughts?

If Kidd is still here I think a Marion Dirk combo would be good. Marion can go to the basket. I would love to have a block shot beast in Camby but prefer Marion above the guys listed. However I dont see how we really get any of them.

I agree that Marion would be perfect for Kidd and Dirk. He runs more than Josh, better defender, 3pt shooter, rebounder, etc.

I don't see why the Mavs wouldn't be able to get him. If we send Howard and filler they should be up for that. Marion doesn't want to be there, Howard is younger, and make less money. Marion is going to ask for a max deal. I don't think Miami's stepping up to that.

I would love to get Camby somehow. They wouldn't take Terry and Damp somehow? Maybe? I know they need a shooter and Damp is a bigger body then Camby.

Camby and Najera for Terry, Damp and whatever else it needs to get done?

Also, I REALLY don't trust his knee but I think JO's value has dropped so much that we might be able to go Howard for JO straight up. (or whatever is need to make the contracts work).

If we could get Marion for Howard I would be all over that but I think Josh's value has really dropped. I hadn't heard about Marion not being happy with being Miami I just heard he wanted a max deal. I would also do the Howard for J. O'neal but I would choose Marion over him because of health issues. But Kidd, Marion, Dirk would be pretty cool.

No dice on Artest. He can opt out this offseason, but if he decides to play next year, there's no chance the Kings deal him for Howard. They already have a logjam at the perimeter spots with Garcia and Salmons, and what they really need is a backup PG and frontline help.

Marion/Jefferson
Artest
Camby/JO

For me I maybe a special case but I am like the only person I know that love Richard Jefferson's game. I know New Jersey isnt gonna take JHo for him but I would love to have RJ. Marion to me is the same type of player just with better defense. But RJ is a very efficient shooter, he never takes crazy shots, and he is aggressive and show passion and heart. I definately wouldnt mind a hopefully more mature Artest which he showed last season, and Camby and JO are sorta on the same line for me. THey both can block shots and Camby is limited in his offensive ability while Oneal has health issues

How about a sign and trade situation with the Sixers and Iguodala? I honestly don't see the Sixers letting Iguodala go, nor do I see the Mavs trading Howard, but this might be a win win situation.

Mavs have plenty scorers while Iguodala could provide a nice punch on the defensive end; Howard would reciprocate the same thing for the sixers, but on the offensive end.

Thoughts?

^^Really? Because I think alot of people in philly would feel the same way if they were able to land Howard for Igg.

^^ i personally see iggy as a young all around player....
slasher, shooter, defender, high flyer, ball handling... the kid can do it all.... and as far as i know, he doesnt smoke pot...

so i guess that makes him better than howard, strictly in my eyes... but i havent watched philly games lately so i dont know how he's doing... but for the straight up deal? i'd do it in a heartbeat!

Laker fan here, would you guys take Lamar for Howard? BTW my condolences on the early exit. You guys did the right thing by firing Avery, no man that ugly should be allowed on national TV.

No. Lamar is way overrated and too old for what the Mavs should be looking to deal for

I still think Marion, Camby and Artest should be our main targets. We need the defense and I think all of those players are on the market.

I don't understand why so many people are wanting Redd. He's a nice shooter but he's older, doesn't play great defense, and doesn't do much else except score. I would pass on him.

One thing I want Dallas to do, if we are going to compete, is look to bring in guys who can play defense. Id love Marion, RJ, Camby. All of them would significantly improve out 1v1 and team defense.

Most Miami fans arent liking Howard+ for Marion. The only deal they are conidering trading Howard for is Dirk if we decide to rebuild.

^ I've got ideas on rebuilding and retooling, though I'd obviously prefer the former. I'd like to see an "Official Rebuilding Proposals" thread and an "Official Retooling Proposals" thread just to separate discussions a bit.

Regardless, if we're trying to compete next year, we have to improve the defense and find some consistency offensively. That's going to mean finding athletic guys who are versatile and can defend multiple positions but also get to the rack/foul line offensively. The problem is, with our trade assets, we'd probably have to take on longer-term contracts, which is counter-productive.

I concur, Mbenga is very hard on the eyes, his face should only be shown on radio also.
