Other than that I don't really care. I'd like to see us build around those guys with role players like the Spurs have done around Duncan. Its a more sustainable model than trying to find a fourth "star".

Its hard to tell with Acie but he looked really poised last game. If he can get his J working I can see him being a good role player for us at the point guard position.

Marv and Chil I'm still undecided. Marv could be a Mike Vick for this chise right now. Just being that he is the ultimate representation of the unfulfilled promise of the BK era. I think he'd do better on another team and I think we'd be better off not waiting on him to reach his peak, whatever that ends up being.

I think JJ. J.Smith, and Horford will be around for many years to come. J. Chill is a keeper as well. At this point I'm so upset with Marvin's effort, yes I meant to say EFFORT, that I'm open to trading him very soon. He's just the opposite of Horford, Smith, and even JJ. He's lost, scared, and clueless about what to do to help this team win.

I was thinking the same thing.

I'm chalking it up to Skyhawk1 just be realistic that Josh Smith has earned a contract with his effort and play in this series, but it doesn't change the fact that he needs to clean up a lot of the bonehead shots and mental lapses. I'm a big Smith supporter and I wouldn't argue that point. There is no questioning Josh's heart though.

I'm down on Marvin too these days for his defense weakness and shaky intensity levels. Sometimes you just don't know until you see a live fire test.

Agreed but I think Smith's improvement in terms of both ability and decision making has been fairly evident. We really need a coach that will tell him not to take shots from outside of 18 feet, ever... well that may be extreme but last night he was 4-13 with 4 3s for 18 points which tells me a) this team desperately needs a couple of guys that can hit jumpshots when Joe is out of the game (which he was for quite a bit last night) and b) when Smith is going at the rack from the high post, KG and the number 1 D in the land can't stop him.

Also, his improvement from an exciting shotblocker but moron defender into legitimate defensive force has given me hope that he can apply the same focus on offense.

Marv - when he came into the league he was billed as "coachable" but you have to wonder if passiveness wasn't mistaken for coachablity. Last night it looked like Marv was going hard but he just wasn't converting and hasn't really been a factor this series. Tomorrow's game is big for him, maybe he needs a fresh start.

lol.. I'm the same old skyhawk1, but I'm changing my mind about J. Smith. It's pretty obvious that he's got a lot of work to do on his game, but I'm very pleased with the was he's been playing latelly. It's not easy to face Garnett and do what he's done. I like the way he's approaching this challenge, being one of the leaders on thsi team. Now, my hopes are higher cause I think his game will get much better as soon as Woodson is gone. I just have the feeling he'll get more motivated and willing to change things about his game when we get a coach who actually knows their job.

I just realized that if the Hawks might not make many roster changes this off season (which is a possibility), but just replace Knight and Woodson. I wonder if the team is more successful next year whether the media will be saying it's the team that Billy Knight put together and he should get another shot elsewhere (like they are saying about Billy King in Philadelphia)? It might be a possibility. I mean they seem to forgot about all the questionable big contracts that Billy King gave out (Kenny Thomas, Willie Green, Eric Snow among others), so maybe they'll forget about drafting Shelden so early and signing Speedy and Lo Wright. Although there is that 2005 draft that I doubt they drop.

If it happens I can live with it as long as that second chance is anywhere but here.

Even though the Hawks have been able to play up to their ability somewhat, they are still very poorly coached. Woodson needs to be replaced. We need a good coach though. it wouldn't be good to bring in someone that would'nt bond with, coach and teach them up.

I'm not as down as most on BK. I like the team that he put together. Every GM in history can be second guessed.

Here's the realistic big core I'd like to see next season:

Bibby / Acie / Speedy

JJ / Mario

Marvin / Chil / Rich

Smoove / Soloman

Horford / Andersen / Zaza

Bibby, Marvin and Zaza would all be very moveable during next season. We also have all of our picks after this draft. Things look very good for the future.

Keep: JJ, Horford, Smith, Marvin, and 2009 draft pick (PG or Center).

Guys who go either way: Law, Solomon, Zaza. Yes, Zaza because he is a big body we still need.

Got rid of: Speedy, Salim, Bibby, and Chill (sign and trade?).

Free agents: back-up center, back-up SF, back-up SG.


Possible line-up:

Smith/Solomon/Horford

Also if we get something in a sign and trade for Chill.

We would then have depth at the big man spots (PF/Center) while also having 2 good PGs in Law and our 2009 draft pick, since we don't have one in 2008. Keeping Marvin means I am hoping he turns into (not a star, since he can't with 3 in our rotation anyways) but a great role player, that way we could re-sign him for cheaper than he would if he became a star.
