Shut down PG in Draft

Post#1 » by randy84 » Fri May 2, 2008 3:00 am

Looking at the Bucks it is obvious that they need defensive help but is there anyone in this draft that will help?

The almost every spot on the roster is a defensive liability, but I don't think that there is anyone in the draft, with the exception of Rose, that would be able to come in and do a better job on defense.

Mayo didn't play defense in college, Augustin is another undersized PG, Bayless doesn't play defense, Westbrook didn't look very good in the final four.

So would it be better for the Bucks to package a couple of players and their #1 to get an already established PG?

Mayo was a very solid defender in college, especially as the season wore on.

Westbrook was the Pac 10 Defensive Player of Year as a sophomore and would be the best defender on the team, right now.

lol... I swear, I'm amused every time I see you guys complain about the PG position...

You seem to have two decent PG's on your roster if indeed Sessions is able to maintain a high level of play once he gets through the league...

How about instead of getting strictly a defensive PG, you look for a defensive wing that can guard multiple positions, and maybe provide a little all around play such as being able to bring the ball up and score a bit..

L&H, you make my point. I don't think there is anyone in this draft that is as good as what we have on the roster now. I think we need to package the #1 and some salary and go out and get a good PG or SF.

You dont need a PG...neccessarily.

YOU NEED THE BEST PLAYER THERE.

And that best player there for the Bucks is Michael Beasley if you ask me.

You need to get talent value for this pick if you dont trade it which I am open to do as well...in a package.

This ironic because this is what YOUR TEAM THE CAVS NEED.

But I agree...we don't need a PG in this draft we need a SG and a wing who can be a flat out stud Star.

Beasley or Gordon...that simple. There is no one else to look at. Those two are who you target.

Many like Rose, Mayo, and whatnot and that is fine and good. But you have to make a descision on Yi and Villanueva ...and try to move one
of them on draft day and get multiple picks and a player.

Thank you.

I've been trying to tell everyone that what we really need are better versions of Awvee Storey and Michael Ruffin. If the PG, SG, and C are going to be our 'scoring positions' in the starting lineup, then the SF and PF should be our 'defensive positions'. Not to say that for instance, Bogut can't do both, score and defend, but just to say that most of his energy will be expended on the offensive side.

But, you are absolutely correct. The Bucks have a logjam as it is at the guard position. To me, Hammond needs to decide between Bell and Williams, as well as between Villanueva and Yi, and then bring in some fresh faces in order to change the personality dynamic.

That's why I keep talking about the swingman position in the draft. CDR could be that type of guy that can guard the point guard a little, score a little, bring the ball up a little (he was formerly a point guard), while adding a professional winning mentality to the team. Oh, and also he is from Detroit, so he probably wouldn't have a problem with cold Milwaukee. Plus, he already has some star appeal.

If we are going to take a shot on potential, I'd rather it be on Nicholas Batum. He could be a Pippen type player eventually, with the right role models and coaching. He is also slipping in the projections. Anthony Randolph is a guy I'm not completely sold on, but he has the tools to be a Marion type.

I still like Brandon Rush as a great role player, and I still think Tyler Smith will be a solid pro after next year. Kyle Weaver is one of those multi-dimensional swingmen. Pat Calathes will make a great role player.

As for our updated Ruffin, that's DJ White. I like him better than Dorsey, because he is more consistant and because he can shoot and score the garbage points. The point guard I like is Mario Chalmers. Westbrook has a lot of potential, but I don't really know how much more he gives us right now then say, Charlie Bell.

It's really too bad that we didn't trade for Marion and Boozer. But, it's time to move on and find the new versions of those player types.

All the reasons have been given multiple times. At their projected draft position, the Bucks need to draft Westbrook. In case you missed it the first time, that's Westbrook!

Look at what some of the wings were doing in the playoffs by guarding PGs and being halfway successful.
