Is Utah A Championship Team?

Post#1 » by College Boy » Fri May 2, 2008 12:41 pm

First off, this is not a chance to hate on the Jazz (even though I hate them the MOST), this is supposd to be quality basketball debating. However, with their current roster, and barring any unforeseen events, an they actually win it all. They are a very good team who is very well coached, but for some reason I just don't see them coming out of the West. So I would have to say no. Will they be a championship team or they go down in history with Kings, Bills, Mavericks, Suns etc.? And if no, then what are they missing? Cause on paper they look ike they have it. Top 3 PG, Top 10 big man, Top 10 sharp shooter, tough defenders, extreme fans, HOF caoch. What else are they missing?

I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the WCF, that's all I have to say about that.

No team is a championship team until they actually win it all. Now if you asked if they were contenders, I would say that they have the pieces to contend for a title. But they are not a championship team.

Okur is a very effective player but they need a 7ft defensive presence if they are going to make it out of the big bad west. A rotation of Boozer, Okur and 7ft monster (Dalembert type guy) is the type of frontcourt they need.

I don't see em having their chances in 2 seven game series in a row vs Hornets, Spurs, or Lakers, so no, don't consider em a championship team

They are the caliber of team that could compete for a championship. They're deep, versatile, and talented right from the starting lineup to throughout their team. Deron Williams is a special player, and he has a decent front court, including a legit second star w/ Carlos Boozer, to help him out. They are good on the road and virtually unbeatable at home. They are one of two NBA teams that have won at least one game against every team this year. Are they good enough to beat 2 of New Orleans, San Antonio and the Lakers? I think so. Could they beat the Eastern Conference Champions? Perhaps.

Maybe. But two big obstacles they can't deal with IMO are the two teams that seem headed for a WCF showdown in LA and SA. I think to be a championship team everyone has to pretty much agree that you can beat either, if not both of those teams. I don't think Utah can and its pretty much because of the way they play defense. You can't foul everyone makes a move to the basket. Thats not defense.

If they play the way they've played against the Rockets then no, they aren't a championship team.

But if Boozer finds a way to get involved and the bench plays the way they did all season they should be able to force any series to 7 games which always give you a chance.

Of course, they've won championships before. What are you talking about?

I would be surprised if they make a run at a championship this year. They need two thing to be a championship team, interior defense, and experience. I believe they are the 3rd youngest team in the NBA.

Harpring is their only player over 30.

Well, their policy is to foul on almost any contested shot. So they run into a problem if Kobe starts getting aggressive and receives a bulk of the possessions...Kobe's shown more of a penchant to drive if the defense gives him any sliver of an angle.

If they can beat LA in the next round then I'd say they are a championship level team.

They aren't going to beat LA in the next round so that about sums it up
