All-Time Fantasy Draft General Talk

Post#1 » by Baller 24 » Fri May 2, 2008 5:14 pm

This is a Realgm NBA All-Time Fantasy Draft. With the help of Penbeast and hopefully other mods I've contacted ;) you can start signing up for this.

This is a 16 team league, with a 12 round draft.

The rules:
Actually its an all-time draft, choose who ever you want to build your best team!

Players that you select will be in their prime, but they must have 5+ seasons of NON-CONSECUTIVE and AT LEAST 50 GAMES played, so for example if you take Grant Hill, he will be the Grant Hill in Detroit who played from 1994-2000 averaging somewhere around 20pts-7ast-7reb.

Bill Walton and Yao Ming are allowed even though both have faced injury problems. Yao his past 3 years of course, and Walton, well we know what happened to him. But as long as we have seen consistent play from each player after injury then its alright. Like Yao, we've seen every year injury after injury everything is fine.

Players like Chris Paul, Deron Williams, etc. cannot be chosen because they did not play 5+ consecutive seasons.

We will be using 2007 NBA rules and refereeing styles allowing zone defenses, three point shots, flopping and superstars being able to carry the ball and take 3-4 steps on the way to the basket as long as they have really high Q ratings

Trades/Free Agency:
Trades will NOT be allowed in this draft, so chose reasonably and wisely. After drafting is over, there will be a 3 day period where each team will be able to drop players and add players, but trading players is not allowed.

Sign-up:
Sign up with your user name, put your email, AIM SN (if you have one) and what team you intend on using. There will be 16 teams, so chose which ever team you want.

Draft:
When sign up is done, drafting will start immediately. There will be 12 rounds to create your best roster.

Drafting will be done randomly, so in each of the 12 rounds, there will be a random draft order for each round.

After drafting is done, each team will be randomly matched up with a team in its conference, and each team will explain their strategy, and why they would win.

After that judges will decide the outcome in a best of 7 series, there will be 5 judges, for you to advance, you would need 3 votes favoring your team.

Judges:
We are going to need 5 judges, so judges may sign up as well. (1st team to 3 wins)
1. LBJ4MVP23
2. NO-KG-AI
3. JordansBulls
4. keepthenetsinnj
5. Milkdud
+ 6. Studcrackers

This is an all-time draft so we need judges that have knowledge of the NBA, minimum requirement 1000 posts, or at least 1 year membership on Realgm.

Teams that are taken:

Boston Celtics - tmac4real
New York Knicks - randomhero423

Sure, deal me in . . . will take the Heat (nowhere to go but up) . . . assuming ABA years count? . . .and consistent play, mmm, is Bill Walton eligible? (never put together 4 season)

I think ABA players should be included. By no means was the ABA significantly inferior to the NBA. Many HOF/HOF worthy players played in the ABA including Dr. J, Rick Barry, Gilmore, Connie Hawkins, Mel Daniels, George McInnis, Haywood, etc.

I hope we can do this and pull it off. I was going to do an alltime draft post 1979. May still do it if this project is successfull.

You need to be consistant and clarify Bill Walton and few others. You need a min amount of games played. I can find many a poor player who had 1 great yr thats better than a GOAT players 4 yr avg. Sleepy Floyd and Ralph Sampson come to mind.

Being a former judge and understanding how much time and effort would go into this (about 5 times as much as a GM) I suggest you have the GMs of the opposite conferance vote. If you can find 2 more 32 would be an easier way and you could do it NCAA style. just a few suggestions. In all honesty I hope you can get more 16 and I would refuse any GM who doesnt have at least 1000 posts.

To any GMs considreing this understand that its going to take at least 100 hours of research and you will have to come here at least 3 times a day and check in. If your not up to the commitment (I took vacation days to be in the last one) please stand down. This is not for the faint of heart and if you have a passion understand that this just may make you lose some sleep/ cause trouble at work and consume your every wakeing moment.

I had the tourney won and lost in the 5th rd by passing on 1 player (Dale Ellis). its that intense and that important.

I hope Mythbreaker sees this and gets in. Buddy we will do that project with your help. I want to match GM skills with you here in this.

Kosta had the Suns, not the Spurs!

I'd like to take the Spurs :D

Hope my knowledge about former centuries is good enough, to not make a joke out of me!

If you need any help please email me. We need to set up a chat like last time. Theres no better way to learn about the NBA and its history than this project. Try to find a few posters here who can help you. I rely on a few myself.

Well, my knowledge of the past of basketball is not really great so while I'm gonna sign up I'm prob gonna need a bit of help with this.

Also, from hosting [at least trying to] a previous tourney like this I can tell you that getting 30 active posters will be exceptionallly difficult. Cut this to 16 at the most and hopefully we can have mostly active posters.

Give me the Mavs, thanks.

thanks for proposing your help...I will need it

as for 16 or 30 teams, I'd really love to get 30, even if it takes a while...if we get stuck between 16 and 30 we can start it with e.g. 20 teams nontheless. (we would only have to figure our a way to to the playoffs)

I'm a little confused here, are we doing the same kind of set-up as prior drafts with this one? Draft, then playoffs?

I agree with Warspite, this will take a lot more studying and dedication to do. Since we're talking about players from different decades and era's. 30-32 teams with 12 man rosters, we're talking 350+ great players from over 50+ years of NBA basketball. Most guys on here probably can't name 30 great players before '90.

How does this chat set-up work? Also I agree that the selection process for G.M's should be strict. Man, I don't even know if I qualify for this to be straight up...

If you don't have a lot of time to invest in this, probably shouldn't sign up. I've been in several of these (ran one) and they do take up a lot of research time.

If this one is to start later than May 26th, I'm in. If it is to start earlier, I have to sit this one out due to exams.

The rules need to be specified down to every detail too.
