A well deserved award. Here's a link... http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3374806
And to all those (Please Use More Appropriate Word) monkeys who think A Horford deserved it more...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5VDuQOxVUk Ya, that game winner was in A Horford's face.
And while I'm at it, I believe J Green is a strong candidate for the all rookie team as well.

The voting hasn't been full results from the voting haven't been announced yet. I suspect that the Horford was actually a close second. And I'm also thinking that Thornton is going to come in third.
I wouldn't be surprised if Green received some third place votes. He may not make it on the all rookie first team, but I think he will at least make it on the second team.

Apparently the voting wasn't even close. I saw this tally on another site. 5 points for each 1st place vote, 3 for a 2nd & 1 for a 3rd. There were a total of 125 voters. K Durant was the only rookie to make all ballots. 72% of the voters picked him #1. A Horford & L Scola appeared to be the consensus #2 & #3 picks.
Kevin Durant - 545 pts (90 1st, 30 2nd, 5 3rd)
Al Horford - 390 pts (30 1st, 74 2nd, 18 3rd)
Luis Scola - 146 pts (5 1st, 20 2nd, 61 3rd)
Al Thornton - 30 pts (0 1st, 1 2nd, 27 3rd)
Jamario Moon - 7 pts (0 1st, 0 2nd, 7 3rd)
JC Navarro - 3 pts (0 1st, 0 2nd, 3 3rd)
Thaddeus Young - 2 pts (0 1st, 0 2nd, 2 3rd)
Carl Landry - 1 pt (0 1st, 0 2nd, 1 3rd)
Mike Conley - 1 pt (0 1st, 0 2nd, 1 3rd)
I think the top four are about right. It's scatter after that. Still think J Green is a legitimate contender for all rookie team. I know some of you question his pick at #5, but I don't.

Well, I guess I was way off. You just kept on hearing all of the commentators and pundits saying "maybe Horford deserves it" or "it is much closer than people realize" ..., I never thought he was a serious threat, but my impression was that it would be a little closer.
I totally forgot about Scola; he really did play well during the Houston winning streak. But, still, I am surprised that Thornton received so few votes. Also, I would have thought that Green would have received at least one or two 3rd place votes ...
Anyway, yeah, I totally mis-estimated.

Congrats to Durant! He really picked it up the last couple months of the season, and I think showed a great learning curve in terms of figuring out how to maximize opportunities on the court.
As for Horford "putting his team into the playoffs," I think Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Mike Bibby and Josh Childress had a little to do with that as well.
And since when did playoff appearances have anything to do with the ROY award? Winning is great as a standard for the MVP, but when it comes to the Rookie of the Year, I don't think winning should be particularly high on the list of factors taken into account.

Hell yeah, those Joe Johnson, Mike Bibby, Josh Smith and Josh Childress dudes had nothing to do with Atlanta winning 37 games and making the playoffs in the very weak Eastern Conference.

All things considered, Durant deserved it and Scola/Horford had real good rookie years as well.
