Woodson is desperately trying to keep his job right now. He pulling stunts out like shaving his head to promote team unity and he is trying to make himself more of a spokesperson for the team and his players. He is basically trying to earn himself brownie points.

that don't make it right. infact, i think woodson is only coming across as everyone knows, and that is a mediocre coach who is trying to impersonate otherwise. these ploys only make it obvious.

When you are actively throwing your GM under the bus in the press, this doesn't register very much. Of course I agree that saying a "travesty" is totally unwarranted and that Woodson comes across as a mediocre coach who is trying to impersonate otherwise. It is just that on the list of things that make that obvious to Atlanta fans, Woodson going hyperbolic in his support for Horford ranks pretty low on the list.

I can understand why Seattle fans would be annoyed at the comment and can't argue with anyone who is ticked that the comment is anything other than ridiculous. If Woodson really wanted Al to win ROY, he should have tried installing an actual offense, getting this team to take advantage of its athleticism rather than playing halfcourt basketball, coming up with a rationale substitution system, etc. Getting a decent coach in Atlanta would add wins to this same roster instantly. So I won't argue with anyone who says Woodson's comment was wrong and amatuerish. I just think it is worth noting that he is trying to connect with both the players and the Atlanta fan base in a desparate effort to save his job and that is part of what is driving him.

How many on here had seen Horford play until the playoffs? I guarantee not very many. That is my biggest problem. Not so much that KD won, but he won in large thanks to the fact the voters had Sonics games and KD ads shoved down their throats all day long. Is there something wrong with this? Probably not. But I think that the system is flawed it those voting don't get to watch both candidates extensively.

And as for Nick Collison being better than Al Horford... Well I really don't even know what to say.

I've seen Horford a good deal and I was really impressed. Strong post player, great rebounder, surprisingly hops and wingspan.

He's definately going to be a force in the NBA for years to come.

I've also seen Durant. He deserved the ROY over Horford.

Then I have no problem with this at all. Like I said, KD definetely played well enough to get the award.

My issue is with the people who never saw Horford play, and all they see is 10 PPG less than KD... and fewer endorsements and national televised games.

For instance, a lot of C's fans have changed their tune on the ROY after seeing him up close for a few games.

Makes sense. I personally think the race was a lot closer than people thought. Almost averaging a double double in your rookie year is a pretty impressive feat.

Horford a better passer than Collison. I'm looking at the other aspects of the game and I can't see it.

Atlanta Hawk Fan wrote:Golly gee whiz. Seattle has two guys better than Al Horford playing the interior, Green who averaged double figures and Kevin Durant who = Joe Johnson. Yet still only won 20 games. I am stumped.

Help me figure this out because Joe Johnson with a double digit scoring forward and two interior guys who are equal to or better than Al Horford wins more than 20 games. Last year's Hawks team won 30 games with less than that.

Again - Atlanta fans aren't saying Durant was a ridiculous choice by any means. In fact, I think most Atlanta fans (although not everyone on this thread) has said how much they respect Durant's game but that they just disagree with the choice. Given that 25% of the people who voted for Horford or Durant as ROY felt the same way probably explains why Atlanta fans (who are less than 4% of total NBA fans) are included in that 25% of people who felt Horford had the better rookie season.

How many wins you think the Hawks would have gotten in the West.

Richboy has a point. If the Hawks were in the West they would have missed the playoffs and would be declared a crappy team that won just 30 games. But that is no reflection on Horford. I base my comments on the players performances, period.

I'm not from Seattle, but Vancouver, which is only 2 hours north. I don't know how anyone can say that KD adds and Sonics games were forced down peoples throats. That's just a plain ignorant statement. Living on the West coast I can tell you that I watched more Atlanta games than Sonics games on TV. We actually are better off than east coasters because of the time zones. There's always an east game on at early dinner time followed later by a westcoast game. I imagine you guys in Atlanta have to stay up intil the A.M. to see westcoast games.

Atlanta is projected to win 36 games against a schedule of teams entirely from the Western conference based on their winning % against the West this year. They won 37 overall. A massive 1 game difference.

Seattle is projected to win 22 games if they played 82 games against Eastern conference teams based on their winning % against the East this year. What is your point?

The Hawks beat the Lakers, Mavs, Suns, Nuggets, and Kings at home (and GSW on the road). They would have about the same record in the West, there problem is that they cannot win on the road, it has nothing to do with which conference they play in.

Dwight and Emeka would have both won ROY if they weren't in the same season.

The fact that Horford played a pivotal role in the Hawks' run for the playoffs is more impressive to me than KD dropping 20 PPG in meaningless games.

I'm not sure if Woody was on the ROY "campaign" after Game 1 as the voting is done after the regular season... He was probably just talking like a coach and pointing to the positives. To use coachspeak in order to prove any opinion is ridiculous.

Dwight didn't even finish 2nd in the ROY voting, Ben Gordon did (while winning 6th Man). What year would Dwight have won it in, Mike Miller's year?
