Nothing is gonna change this summer. Ed is keeping everybody. Mo, Iggy, and god forbid...Willie freaking Green. Just kill me.

What do you guys expect?

No matter what Ed's plans are for Iguodala this offseason, it makes no sense for him to say anything other than we plan on matching. If you give off the possibility that you won't match, you end up creating a bidding war for Iguodala, which makes it more likely that his cost will go up.

im all for keeping the man. He has plenty of room to grow. I would have a problem with it if igg was some kinda of premadonna carmelo anthony headcase kinda guy. But Igg has a high work ethic, and I respect. If he bust his ass every off season to improve on something, I would be thrilled to have him for the long haul.

Sign and trade, get some good players(Vet or Young) that can fill in mulitple positions and potentially start in the NBA. If Iggy overasks that is.

Of course he's going to match. It would be stupid not to. I just hope that he doesn't sign the tender offer so he can leave next year.

Im glad he's going to match, you don't let restricted free agents like Iguodala just leave. That would be foolish.

Why do we not want to keep Iggy? Cause he had 5 bad games?

Man, you guys are fickle. Iguodala does all the little things that no one appreciates. Sure, he can't score, but he can do everything else. I'll take him over Michael Redd (who I can't believe some of you are suggesting) any day of the week.

You just can't let the guy walk...we don't have enough talent to win a title now...so we are in no position to lose any of the talent we have. And dabods is right - by coming out and saying we'll match all offers, it keeps the bidding down/away...not that there are a ton of teams who have the cap room to make serious offers in the first place.

And, BTW, expect the Hawks to do the exact same thing with JSmith.

Now...as to what we want to offer Iggy without other bidders?

Hmmm.....

BUt he is a Primadonna , he overvalues his worth . He bickers with teammates on the floor and blames them for bad passes and turnovers a ttimes when he himself is responsible. It's not his fault though . We created this situation when we traded AI and automatically proclaimed Iguodala as the Face of the franchise. When you're the best all round player on a bad team , you just assume you're a great player. Well now he thinks he's a star. Oh well

His worth is what someone is willing to pay him. He doesn't have to take an offer just because his bosses want him to.

Absolutely. If he doesn't like what we offer him, doing a one-year tender and becoming a UFA after this season is a viable option. It's a risk, but if he stays healthy, he'll have some options next summer.

If that happened, would we trade him at the deadline, or keep him and either let him walk or bid on him again next summer?

With a one year tender he gets a no-trade clause, so he'd have to approve of any trade.

That wouldn't necessarily be a terrible thing by the way. That's an extra $6 million in cap room if he takes the QO. And we could always sign him the following summer (Although he would be unrestricted)

As others have said... this announcement is of no shock to anyone. While I doubt that Iguodala ends up on another team this summer, Stefanski has to say he'll match anything. If says anything else, it pisses off Iguodala (feels unwanted) and decreases Iguodala's value in a sign and trade.

Ed talked about trying to use the cap space and sign or trade for a player BEFORE we sign AIG and Lou.

I assume that means that the extra few millions freed up by signing AIG to the tender could not be used this summer- but could come into play in a trade during the season.

Thanks Captain Obvious! Of course we'll match any offers for Iggy. However if i'm Iguodala and his agent, I'm a little hot right now hearing that statement. It kinda says that Ed will let Iggy go and sign whatever offer sheet he wants to in free agency, and match it. Rather than just sign Iggy to a new deal right now. Or at least sign the one that Iggy and his agent feel he's worth. Ed knows that Iggy's not going to get any high-priced offers cause no one,,,besides Memphis has any huge amount of free agent money other than the MLE which is just below what ? 6 million dollars. And Memphis has absolutely zero interest in Iguodala. Not with Miller and Gay there. Not to mention Crittenton, who could be a Combo SG and maybe even Rose. No chance of memphis even talking to Iggy's agent. As far as accepting the QO,,I highly doubt it. Iggy would be losing a guaranteed 4 to 5 million dollars next season. And with no guarantee that he will do better in next years free agent market. If Iggy does not sign a offer sheet in free agency,,,and he won't. And if talks stall between Iggy's agent and Ed. Then I guess we MIGHT see a scenario where Iggy's agent demands that Ed re-sign, and trade his client to another team who WOULD be willing to say give whatever contract that Iggy wants, but is over the Cap in return for players from that team. But I'm certain Ed just laughs that demand off :-)

Iguodala, as much as I love him and want him to stay, is really not in a position of strength here. That's why I have a feeling that Iggy and his agent aren't happy to hear that Ed said, he'll match whatever offer Iggy gets. Cause he knows he won't receive any.

Because of the lack of teams with any cap space you could see some GM's playing hardball with their RFA's. This might lead to some contentious/bad blood type negotiations with a number of players signing 1 year tenders.

Seriously.

I don't really get why this is a headline here. Regardless of what happens with Iggy, Stefanski has to say this. He is a shrewd GM. We are through Billy's disastrous days of negotiations.
