I asked this question before the season started (JFarm)
I am sorry guys for those who it bothers that I am opening a post every day it seems like but I am just going crazy waiting on Bynum news the playoffs to start and for the MVP to be announced. I will try to open alot less threads and I have been trying to make good threads when I do that people can have good debates with and make the board better. Pretty soon I will be moving back to N.Y. again and will have not very much time to be here. Anyway here is my question read below.
I asked were do you guys thing he will end up talent and star status wise meaning who is he comparable to. Will he be just a career backup or a Derek Fisher a decent starter but never will be confused with an allstar or be like a Tony Parker and end up a star.
Now that he has clearly worked on his game and we all know his game very well I think it is a good time now to give opinions on his future potential and how he will be.
He averaged 9 points in 20 minutes. Now I know it isn't an exact science were if you double the minutes you double the points but if you did double his minutes and he did average 18 points in my book that is a star. Do you guys think he could average 18 points a game?
As for a pg meaning his pg duties I think we don't get to see it that much because of the triangle but if he were on another team and starting I think he would be one hell of a playmaker. On another team if starting I think he could average 7 assists. I think he could run a fast break team or run a half court offense team.
He has proven that he has a great work ethic. Now if he keeps that up and works on his game every single year I think he could be one of those top pg's who don't make the allstar team. He doesn't play like Felton or Miller but I think he has that type of potential to be on there level. He has a good assist to turnover ratio, he has a very high bball IQ and his 3 point shooting is great and will only get better. He has it all, he can drive to the lane and he can make plays and make his teammates better.
I think if he was on a different team in a year or 2 three years max he would be a guy who is your third option on offense and gets you 14-18 points with 7 assists. He would also probably average 2 steals if he had the fulltime minutes yet he doesn't gamble were it's a liability.
Now I am completely bias because Farmar is one of my 5th favorite player and he is a Laker so if I am wrong please tell me.
He is obviously our pg of the future unless Phil conviences Mitch to make a move for a tall pg and with Kirk on the block and Odom maybe getting traded it's possible but hopefully Farmar is the pg of the future. He has the 3 point shooting for it and with Bynum and Gasol being our future 4 and 5 and Kobe being there I believe Farmar will work even harder on his 3 point shot and possibly become a 40% 3 point shooter and he will get all the open looks he needs. Fisher is 34 years old this year and he will probably start next year but the year after that I see him going to the bench for Farmar.
Is it possible that we will have 3 legit allstars (Odom plays with this team like an allstar but he probably won't make an allstar game with the forwards in the west) and have 2 stars in Odom and Farmar or very close to stars?
Is it possible that our future starting lineup in 2010 has 5 stars? (Stars imo are not always allstars for example Mike Bibby is a star to me but not an allstar, Josh Smith, Andre Miller, Emaka Okufor, and these players range from awesome to pretty damm good like RJ is awesome but not an allstar and T.J. Ford is pretty damm good, they are all stars just not allstars).
I personally love Jordan Farmar but it is possible he is not as good as I think and if so I need to hear it. Sometimes he comes on the court and I expect so much and alot of the times he is just there giving Fisher a break so I am a little confused.

Next year farmar would be a starter after few months.. fisher isn t as good as he was the first half of the season, 34 is not easy for a player not being all-star to play the PG from the beginning. If farmar gets minutes from start, he will be better. But hold on: I strongly believe that if the ring goes away this year, one of our starters will be departing...Odom for PG looks a good trade, so you don t even know if he will be with us next yr...I defenetely want him, I want all talents of this team in the ship so as to see them rise in Staples Center.

Till Farmar settles his little grudge or whatever towards Kobe, he's not going to start. IMO he plays better when he's not on the court with Kobe. WHen they are both on the court together, Farmar goes away from Kobe and forces it causing more often than not stupid passes and unforced turnovers.
It's cool to brush off Kobe only when it won't hurt the triangle.
EDIT: Also him starting would cause him to burn out faster than he did this year. He's just not ready to start, but I wouldn't doubt him starting in 2 years min.

Yup ^
We just need him to not turn it over as much as he does. He needs to get better at his decision making and stick to the basics.
The only time he displays why he's not a starter is when he tries to pull a flashy (risky) pass early in the shot clock. He just needs to mature a bit.
All in all, he's made great strides already. He still needs to improve his outside shot, in order to better utilize his cutting skills, which are great. As it is right now, opposing guards sag on him and that takes him out of his otherwise aggressive offensive mindset. So he goes for the flashy pass, or starts over. Starting over is OK, but the flashy pass is a horrible decision, and it happens too often.
I don't think he'll be a Parker. Parker can cut even when his defender sags. Farmar simply isn't as much of a speed-wizard on the one-on-one dribble. Farmar is very quick, among the quicker guards in the league but Parker is lightning quick.
Parker and Farmar are very similar in many ways, though. Both need to improve their outside shot in order to become even more of a threat.
However, I love Parker's mature shot selection from behind the arc. He rarely takes a three early in the shot clock, even if he's left wide open. That's a habit that Farmar should pick up. If he does, this Lakers team will get even better at controlling the tempo and keeping leads.
I'd also like to see him play as hard on the defensive end as he does on the offensive end. He just needs to apply that same intensity and killer instinct to his defense.

You are evaluating Nash on his resume of 10 years and MVPs. But put yourself into the shoes of a 23 yo with one NBA season under his belt and here's what Nash was looking like:
Rookie Season:
10.5 min Per Game.
Stats per 40 min: 12.5 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 8.1 APG, 1.2 SPG
Now look at Farmar's rookie campaign:
Age at start of season: 19
15.1 min Per Game
Stats per 40 min: 11.7 PPF, 4.4 RPG, 5.0 APG, 1.6 SPG
In looking at THAT Nash, did you see the "flashes". Of course. Did you feel he'd be a starter in this league. Sure. Could you predict the 30+, 10 yr veteran Nash as multi-MVP, one of the greatest PGs of all time.....OF COURSE NOT. Had you ever even heard of Nash before that senior year upset of UCLA (unless you are a WCC nut or Canadian, you are lying if you say had).
So stop thinking you have any idea that Farmar won't become great. There's the definite possibility. Kid has been on the national radar for since 10th grade, won there, won in college, and now is going to get his chance in the bigs just like Nash did. "

Farmar is just too good a basketball player, with all the intangibles (savvy), to be anything but a starter in this league from his 3rd season, and I actually expect him to be a star. He works so hard on his game he may even surprise us this season coming up and earn the starting spot. He came in not supposed to be able to hit an NBA trey and he proved everybody wrong, and I expect him to shoot up to about 38% from behind the arc this next season."
Pretty damn good prediction CB. 37.1% from trey this year. Better than Kobe.
Noted, StarDex.
