Orlando's Cap Situation
I was wasting time perusing hoopshype checking to see which teams have cap space for this summer, when I got to the Orlando salary rankings. This must be the strangest salary arrangement I've seen before:
2007/08 - $58,819,313
2008/09 - $54,856,605
2009/10 - $56,571,969
2010/11 - $43,016,134
2011/12 - $46,606,798
2012/13 - $50,197,463
For 2010/11 until 2012, those figures are only for Jameer, Dwight, and Rashard.
Orlando is the only team in the NBA that has this kind of cap outlook; no other teams go down and then up again.
I'm not sure if this arrangement is irrelevant, poorly planned, or just a funny effect. Seems worthy of discussion anyway.

And hoping you can sign MLE players with Dwight attraction.
Tough look

By 2012/13, Dwight will probably at his prime (more likely another year or two away from it), Jameer will be at his prime, Dwight and his personality will attract a lot of players, Rashard and Hedo will still be effective, as they will be approaching the end of their respective prime years, and we'll likely have some useful, young players from the draft, kind of like what Boston did with guys like Powe and Big Baby, etc.
As a Magic fan, I'm hardly pessimistic about the team's future at all, granted that Otis Smith doesn't do anything too stupid or SVG decides to leave (Hurts me to just think about it)

This is just like a few years ago. Orlando has a young superstar in McGrady but can't put anything around him because of a terrible contract in Grant Hill. Except this time Orlando has a young superstar in Howard and won't be able to to put anything around him because of a terrible contract in Lewis. HOW LONG TIL DWIGHT DEMANDS OUT?!?

True, but all I can say as a Magic fan is:
Worth every penny.
The Magic bid against themselves for an extra $25M in Shard's contract. Why trade with Seattle? Just costs you an extra 2% per year over the life of the contract, and gives Shard an extra year at $24M. You know Rashard Lewis will not be worth $24M at the age of 33.

What it shows me is that they're committed to not having a consistently rising salary structure, which is a good idea. Also, how about 2010? They'll have cap space then, accounting for the combination of 1st-rounders and cap increase.
Rashard's contract is a monstrosity but we'll see if it kills them entirely.
Yes, Detroit will destroy them this year though.
