Safest non-lotto pick?
What is the best strategy for acquiring a useful contributor when drafting outside the lottery? I know some teams like to draft projects (7 footers or athletic freaks) but these are high-risk-high-reward picks. But what is the safe pick? A senior?

The safest pick outside of the lottery is a Wing player that has displayed good skill but may not have gotten as much attention or maybe has a slight problem with his game like suspect defense or a weird looking shot.
Guys like that can easily pan out and tend to learn their postions well. The player may not be a star but should atleast be a good role player.
Guys from this years draft that fit this mold are:
CDR
Rush
Batum-if he falls out of the lotto

Agree here. Long arms made him one of the best perimeter defenders in the college game last year. Point guard instincts.

I'm going to have to agree with basically every person here that Brandon Rush is the safe choice here.
I could really see Kyle Weaver as a type of a Shane Battier type of player.

I'm going to be pissed if Rush falls out of the lotto. I don't really get the knock of the player..He's big, good shot..I know hes a bit inconsistent but consistency in college is pretty hard to come by. He rebounds well, and if he works on his penetration he should be a 18ppg scorer easily. Maybe im crazy
