sorry but, kobe's mvp was way overdue. paul is young, he will win one. this just isnt his year.
Whether it was "overdue" or not should make no difference in the voting. I don't care how much more time CP3 has, if he is the MVP then give it to him. If they are giving it to him simply because it is overdue than it will and should go down as a pitty MVP award. However, I do believe he DESERVED it and is not the winner simply because he was "overdue". Good job to all canidates.

That's the most ridiculous argument when it comes to justifying and MVP vote.
If the player deserves it, he can be a rookie or 12 years old, you gotta give it to him.
I'm not saying Kobe didn't deserve, just saying the argument of "Paul (or LeBron) are young, they will win it someday, is simply stupid.

Before I start my rant I will say this, I hate Kobe as much as the next person in here. But I do have respect for what the guy can do.
Anyone who thinks Kobe didn't deserve it or that Paul was robbed IMO needs their head read.
You could definitely make a case for both players, but neither of them would have been or were robbed because they didn't win it.
Frank where are those glasses when I need them?
Personally I would liked to have seen LeBron get more recognition for his season. Sure the guys team wasn't atop the Eastern Conference, but he is still the first player to average 30-7-7 since ummmmmm that other guy who wore #23. And seriously, the Cavs just plain and simple have a bad team, they are better right now than what they were to begin the season, but c'mon you take LeBron out of that Cavs team and well, sh*t I don't even wanna go there. Take Kobe out of the Lakers and whilst they are no doubt not as good, they still better the Cavs by the old Country mile. The same could be said for Paul and his Hornets, although I would take a Kobe-less Lakers over a Paul-less Hornets.
Did LeBron deserve the MVP? Maybe, but IMO the right person won the award.
Was he (kobe) due? Without a doubt.
Did that sway the voters decisions? Probably.
Should it have? Nope.
Was it the wrong decision? Flat out NO.

Hey, Lebron, CP3, Kobe are all crazy players and some of the best. But I agree with my man Never Fear 33 Is Here, and KPCB34. He is the best and deserved it.
Kobe has been the best player in this leauge for years now. He still is hands down better than Lebron and Paul. He deserved it when Duncan won it.
His numbers have been crazy, but has finially led his team to the 1st seed IN THE WEST might add, and deserved it big time. You can argue paul deserved it, lebron or whatever, thats fine, but the MVP is Kobe. Lebron is incredible, but not a closer like Kobe is. Sorry man, they guy is not quite at the level Kobe is at right now.

Finishing atop the west cant be used in this situation?

Its Kobe's fault it was a tight race and there were 7 other good teams?? I dont think that anyone would argue that the Lakers wouldnt have had more victories if Bynum didnt miss over half the season, Gasol missed 10 games, and countless other injuries...
One of the best cases for Kobe imo, is that he got his team in first place despite all the injuries in one of the best conferences of all time... And you wanna take that away?

and those of you saying its a lifetime achievement award: How many players, all time, have put up 28, 6 and 5 with 57 wins and first place and have not been a front runner for MVP, or flat out won it???

Ridiculous isn't it? It's the same thing as saying a guy can't win a 3rd MVP because he's never made a finals appearance, so they give it a guy who then gets ousted in the 1st round by an 8th seed.
Back to Paul and Kobe...only 3 seasons into his career, Paul almost singlehandedly led NO to one of the biggest turnarounds in league history - a franchise best record for sure - and has established himself as the best PG in the game. I think he's more valuable to his team's success. The "success" in LA, IMO, Chris Wallace out of Memphis had a bigger hand in it than Kobe...but I voted for Kobe, SIMPLY because his team finished with a better record and Kobe won both matchups between them late in the regular season.
Paul deserved it, but Kobe deserved it this year too...when the two candidates are this close, you just have to look at team record. It's a regular season award after all.

The 2005-06 Suns will always have a special place in my heart

Larry Bird quote:
Indiana Pacers president and NBA legend Larry Bird was on the Dan Patrick Show this morning, and the subject of clutch performers came up. Patrick asked Larry Legend if Kobe's ability to hit big shots rivaled Michael Jordan. Bird responded with this:
"I think Kobe is the best player in our league and I think he's been the best player for a long time, not to take anything away from anybody else. You know, somebody told me the other day that [Kobe] hasn't won an MVP trophy, and it sort of made me feel like I want to go throw mine away, so that's how much respect I have for the guy."
WoW!!!!

This is the first year I've seen Kobe in his entire career be a team player. He might have been the most talented player, but most valuable, in terms of impact to his team, was not greater than the impact that Chris Paul made to a less talented and a newly rebuilt Hornets. Even my Laker homer friends don't dispute that CP3 should have won.

Seems to me that these are contradictory statements.
Not at all. If you go back and read my post you should see that my whole point was that you could make an argument for either 3 of them. Had LeBron won it or Paul won it, my whole point is that it would not have, IMO, been a bad decision or the wrong one.
At least that is the point I was trying to get across.
So basically with the last line of my original post, that would have been the same had either of the other two won it.

I think Paul or Garnett should have gotten it. Kobe is probably the most individually talented player in the league. He has been for years. But if the reason he gets MVP is because of that fact, it's a bogus case. Garnett (and I know people say that the C's added Ray Allen as well) turned a team from less than 20 wins into the team with the best record in the league! Paul has made the Hornets #2 in the west with basically the same team he had last year. Conversely, there wasn't much talk of Kobe being MVP until Pau Gasol got traded in the trade that should have been rescinded. I kind of half azz expect next year for Garnett to be traded to the Lakers for Rony Turiaf; why not? No one questions the trades anymore!
Aside from that, I think Paul was more of the reason that the Hornets are doing as well as they did than Kobe was to the Lakers. Remember-it wasn't until Gasol got there that they started playing their best. Paul has played that well the whole season!
Again, I used to love Kobe (until that visit to the Colorado hotel), and I do think he is the best all around player since Jordan. I just think that Paul is more deserving of the award if you look at the whole season and the player's value to his team for the whole season.

+ 1
I had CP3 as MVP favorite up until the Lakers took over the top seed in the West. Cudn't go wrong with either of em, but I'd vote Kobe.
LBJ's a notch below those 2 in MVP consideration cuz his team's record isn't good enuf.
