That's funny, I said the same thing to my buddy last night, when Zaza was hugging Childress and Horford.

He played pretty well last night, especially defensively. However, this is the same guy who most Hawks fans hated for a majority of the season because he played so poorly when he did get minutes. However I do miss laughing at how tough he proclaims himself to be,

He is what he is, a solid back-up center who will come in and play defense and grab rebounds who makes significantly less money than our third string center.
Do you still think he is Gadzuric minus athleticism?

Zaza looked solid during the last game, and at other times he has looked just as bad as Gadzuric (throughout this past season). If given a choice I would probably choose neither.REDDzone wrote:-= original quote snipped =-

Both of them have looked like complete garbage thoughout the seaosn.. so I can't exhalt one over the other. We need something better than what both are able to offer at this point for a backup C. Perhaps if Gadzuric is still here next season, then Skiles can get something more out of him. Who knows at this point.

Zaza isn't here because he wanted the opportunity to be a starter, not because Larry Harris was adamantly against resigning him.Mags FTW wrote:The only e-mail I ever wrote Larry Harris was one begging him to sign Zaza instead of Gadz.

Who cares if Zaza wanted to be a starter? Sure he wanted to go to Atlanta instead of backing up Bogut. But he was a restricted free agent. It was our decision, not his. Harris and Kohl blew it, plain and simple. And while Zaza was the starter his first season in Atlanta, he started but 5 games this past season.

He only started 5 games this season because they found a far superior replacement for him, and that resulted in Zaza getting few if any minutes whatsoever.MickeyDavis wrote:Who cares if Zaza wanted to be a starter? I'm not crying over the lose of Zaza like some, because he can be decent at times but both him and Gadz have looked like garbage for a long time.. Having him might have been nice but I still don't think it would have made much difference in the win/lose column. We probably would still be sitting here with the same record.

Either way Zaza is playing well defensively for a playoff team that is a game away from one of the biggest upsets in NBA history, while Gadzuric can't crack third string on a 26 win Bucks team that plays guys like Jake Voskuhl and Michael Ruffin.
This is not to mention the huge difference in salaries.
Sure, say Zaza is garbage, and relative to some that may be true. But Zaza >>>>>>>> Gadz, and it isn't even close to close IMO.

Zaza is averaging like 15mpg in the playoffs, and got the most minutes of the entire series thus far yesterday playing around 28 muntues. He's averaging around 3ppg 2rpg 0bpg .3 apg .3 spg 1.33 turnovers thus far in this playoff series.
In the playoffs this has been his stats line for each game:
May 02 - 9 points, 6 rebounds, 1 TO, 0 blocks, 2 steals, 0 assists in 28 mins.
Apr 30 - 2 points 0 rebounds, 0 TO, 1 assist, 0 steals, 0 blocks in 11 mins.
Apr 28 - 0 points, 2 rebounds, 0 TO, 0 assists, blocks and steals in 11 mins.
Apr 26 - 4 points, 4 rebounds, 3 TO, 0 assists, 0 blocks, 0 steals in 14 mins.
Apr 23 - 3 points, 1 rebound, 2 TO, O assists, blocks and steals in 18 mins.
Apr 20 - 4 points, 3 rebounds, 2 TO, 1 assist, 0 blocks and steals, in 12 mins.
On the season he is averaging:
5ppg, 4rpg, 1.11TO, .02bpg, .4spg, .6apg in 15.2 minutes (in 62 games)
For those in love with stats, I thought I would just add this to the discussion so we don't get lost in a good game last night.. Nothing I am looking at stats wise makes me upset with not having Zaza on the team. And for the most part yesterday was his best game, and the rest weren't all that impressive looking (when I have watched him). He hasn't impressed in the same way that Gadz hasn't impressed this season, and based on those numbers and what I have seen he doesn't even appear to be a good backup.. So I guess I fail to see how he is proving to be sooooooo much better than Gadz, based on what I have seen then look about equal.
