Well, it wasn't entirely the Shaq trade...remember this squad with Shawn was pretty much done and for certain we didn't have enough to beat the Lakers and Spurs. Thus the Shaq trade, and what really forced us to make this Shaq trade was the KT trade. It was obvious that, the moment this team became irretrievably broken was when we made the KT trade. It simultaneously destroyed our present chances of winning, and sabotaged any chance we have of rebuilding.
So yes, I blame Kerr first before I blame anyone else.

I remember the main argument against Kurt was he slowed the team down...
But going "faster", made the Suns much more vulnerable.
So they ended up trading for a slower player... better offensively.. but much worse defensively... although fixed the rebounding issue.
But I can envision the lineup of Kurt, Amare and Hill as a pretty sturdy front court anyways... but thats gone now.

KT did NOT slow us down. I'm not going to dig numbers but I remember numbers showed that we were just scoring as many points offensively with KT in the line-up. The only difference when KT went down is the opponent FG% and opponents' PPG both went up.
Sarver and Kerr had 16 million reason to trade KT, 'slowing the game down' certainly couldn't be one of them. That's just spin.

I think we are at a point where we are one or two aquisitions from being the most feared team in the league.
Its going to start by getting rid of the inconsistent players on this team.
Barbosa - His game is valuable to other teams, but we need consistency, and a player who isnt scared to play big games. I say, out of everyone on this team, he is the one that has to go.
Diaw - Im just not so sure about this guy. But after his showing late in the playoffs, I think we have finally found a niche for this guy. His post game is fierce and crafty, and his body strength and versatility gives him alot of advantages over opponents at teh SF spot.
In all realistic capability, who can we acquire?
Maggette - He is going to look for the big bucks. But he is exactly what we need. When we need easy baskets, I cant think of a another guy who can stroke it, and take hits relentlessly.
But if not Mags, then we start looking for bargains.
The goal of this offseason is simple, we are an excellent offensive team, but how can we get significantly better at the defensive end, without sacrificing consistency on the offensive end of the floor.
Well I'm thinking guys like:
Pietrus
Barnes
We need under the radar type guys who can bring a level of atheticism and defensive intensity. We need a strong balance between youth and savy veteran play.
We also need to get mentally tougher --- and this means changing the entire soft mindset of this team, into one of the tougher teams in the league.
I'm not worried, I think we showed we were good enough to beat the defending champs, the chips just didnt fall in our favor.

I would do a Barbosa to Milwaukee for Charlie Bell + Ramon Sessions (plus filler if required).

it is apparent from past manuevers, any deal will be one that provides a cost saving measure. Trading salary for salary does not do that. We will be 4 to 5 mill over the cap by resigning Hill, + 3 others (Giracek and Skinner to me, are logical add ons plus a rookie or two). We deal Barbo, it has to be to a team who can give less salary back (to the tune of a couple of mill) else why do it? Also the potential barbo absorber will be a team who needs an offensive sg (IMO) with defensive liabilities, and who has a spare PG. The draft (#15) will not yield a pg who can be of immediate help.
I am encouraged by the late play of Diaw, and his ability to facilitate the offense (he will abuse smaller sfs in the post... is this the Boris everyone was hoping for???) . Remember, this team's first great success came with a high post passing center who averaged close to 9 dimes a game. Perhaps with refinement, our Nash-less line up can become his to run, and lesson the responsibilty of the back up pg.
I just don't see the merit in moving Barbo. His short comings can be improved. Christ, if he would just pass the ball immediately rather than dribble around for 10 seconds, it would help. Remember, this is a kid who had little to no solid instruction until the last 3 yrs (much like Stat....any wonder why both lack the fundamental appraoch to playing D)
I beleive we can scratch off Charlotte as a dealer for Barbs given the acquisition of Larry Brown. Milwaukee now is under the command of Skiles. Avery J could be Knick bound. None of those coaches will covet defenseless Barbasoso. Chicago is up in the air and I believe under the cap. But they have some FAs to sign. I have seen the mention of Duhon ....but I'd rather remain with Barbo, work on his game, than to have a Party Boy like CD who will command similar dough. Memphis has 3 pgs, is under the cap, and has the former Phnx ties w/ivaroni. If Defense/pg was a priority, perhaps a deal like Barbo for Lowery and #28 would be a possibility, though I do not know a whole lot about his game, I remember him in college as a serious pest on ball defense. RSarver could then sell that pick to glean more hay to apply to his holy buget.
