Is Doc afraid of Sam Cassell?

Post#1 » by tombattor » Sat May 3, 2008 8:33 pm

Is Doc afraid of Sam Cassell? I don't understand why this guy gets so many minutes, only to slow down the offense, jacks up way too many shots, kills whatever offensive rhythm we have and doesn't play a lick of defense. Why can't we try Eddie House in there? Even Doc admitted that the ball moves better with Eddie House in there and he actually tries on D.

Is Doc afraid of Sam's over-sized ego and personality from sulking and becoming a cancer? Shouldn't the coach's main responsibility to help the team win and not to keep a bench player happy at the expense of the team? Or does Doc not see that Sam Cassell is a huge problem whenever he's in the game?

I'm not saying that we lost game 6 only because of Cassell, but should a backup PG be able to really kill the offensive flow of a team that much? I'd much rather have everyone involved while Eddie House is in there to keep the offense moving than have Cassell make a jumper while everyone else stands around.

I am SCARED TO DEATH of Cassell when he's on the floor.

Untill last night's game, Rondo has done great and I think he should be getting 40 mpg.

But every time I see Sam on the floor I just hold my breath and think okay he's either going to do fine or horribly... come on Doc put Rondo back in...

I don't know. But Cassell really killed us in the 2nd quarter. We blew a
32-20 lead when he came in.

I saw Doc and Cassell walking off the court side by side after the game. Doc said something to Cassell and Cassell nodded in agreement. I don't know what that was all about. I don't know if anyone else noticed this.

If you saw how House played in the the 4th qtr of game 4, you'd understand why Doc is hesitant to play him. I would be, too. In a span of three minutes with House in the game, the Hawks cut the lead from 10 to 1. During this span, House committed 2 TOs and jacked up an airball for good measure. Since then, Doc's been scared to play him. But yeah, I agree, Cassell played like crap last night. Rondo played one of his worst games so far.

Cassell is crap. He has singlehandedly killed the Ubuntu on this team and screwed up the rotations.

actually the pg i hope switches up his game a bit is rondo. We were so succesful when he was a pass first point guard, and i'm happy his confidence is up about his offense but I'd like to see the ball move around a lot more.

I was talking to my friend from Boston and we both agreed that Doc is afraid he'll get abducted by aliens if Sam-I-Am doesn't get his minutes.

In either case, one of Doc and Cassell won't be with the team next season. If we lose, both won't be on the team.

Sam is gonna come back, but i have a feeling Doc won't.

Also if Doc's afraid of anyone it's Scal, that's why he's inactive

idk if it's just because Sam came in so late in the season. Then he had like a week or two of injury list.

Then he never really played in some real minutes...

idk, but we need Sam because House or Tony Allen can't be trusted to bring the ball up the court. Only Sam can, but he doesn't move the ball when he's out there. and I think at least this series we've been able to hide him on the Childress or Marvin when he's in the game but otherwise Sam can't stay in front of a PG. We even put him on Childress when Bibby was in and Bibby is a small threat when it comes to penetrating.

idk, I know it's silly to want a rookie but I think Pruitt would be good enough to bring the ball up and just pass it off. I'm probuly mistaken though, Pruitt will probuly be forced into some situation where his inexperience will show.

Cassell is great sometimes. Horrible other times. Never a team player.

Doc should have stayed in the broadcasting booth...there should be some kind of NBA rule or a law or something?...

Once you become a broadcaster, your coaching and general managing days in the NBA should be permanantly over!....

Looks like if we lose in the first round, Danny is a flop too?....

Speaking of flops....

What was it that Steve Kerr said about aquireing Shaq for Marion back before the playoffs? Something like.... "I'll either be an genious or a moron."

Guess we know how that came out?

He should have stayed in the broadcast booth too!

Tony Allen should get all the backup 1-2 minutes. He's the type of athlete who could give the Celtics a real boost on the defensive end. Which is the end the Celtics are going to have to play well in order to win game seven.

Both Sam and Ray have killed the Celtics due to their inability to matchup with any of the Hawks PGs, SGs, or SFs. Not to mention the fact that both players have displayed questionable shot selection at key points in games throughout the series.

Ditto Tony as an athletic defender. When we play athletic teams, we need a dog out there with one assignment, shut Joe Johnson down, or whoever is lighting it up.

Putting that task in Ray's hands means he's going to be too flat to play offense after the 1st half.

Sam Cassell is a great asset! He is not a problem. IMO Rondo does some great things but he also sometimes leaves his man on defense.

CASSELL

Game 1W

16 minutes

3/6 shooting (Rondo 5/14)
10 points

Game 2W

11 minutes

4/9 shooting (Rondo 6/11)
10 points

Game 3L

15 minutes

1/4 shooting (Rondo 5/10)
3 points

Game 4L

6 minutes

0/6 shooting (Rondo 5/14)
0 points

Game 5W

15 minutes

6/8 shooting (Rondo 5/14)
13 points

Game 6L

20 minutes

2/8 shooting (Rondo 4/14)
4 points

Strange thing is that when Sam scores more than 10 pts we win the game... Just a coincidence???

Sam is just the 8th player in the rotation with 14 mpg in the PO, less than a half of his career PO average.

Who do you want at the PG when ROndo sits out? Eddie House???

It's not just about the number of shots, but how those shots come. Whether you work the ball around to all 5 teammates and get the ball back with 5 seconds left on the clock or you jack up a 1-on-5 pull up, they both come up on the box score as 1 field goal attempt. Rondo and even House when he's in there, work the ball around and try to get his teammates involved. Cassell just holds the ball until he can shoot, causing everyone to stand around and killing whatever offensive flow we may have had.

That is how I see it. If Doc didn't keep Rondo on the bench for so long in the fourth of game 6, there is a good chance we are talking about how to defend LeBron today. Cassell is ok if he is in the flow, but he is a doorstop if he isn't.
