Which duo was better? which duo would you take if starting a team? Which duo complimented each other best?

West > Baylor > Malone > Stockton

But Stockton and Malone complemented each other beautifully and played at high levels for 20 years. Baylor fell off after his injury, and the Lakers actually won without him.

Baylor/West are better individually than Malone/Stockton, but latter were so much more than the sum of their parts. You can go with both, I take Stockalone for their longevity.

PS: That the Lakers won nothing with Elgin was not Elgin's fault. He was fantastic, but w/o a center, it was IMPOSSIBLE to win against the dynasty Celtics. Lakers had Krebs/LaRusso/Elgin vs Russell/Heinsohn/Havlicek, go figure.
