It frees up 6Mof cap space for further moves, but I think signing the QO would happen at the end of the FA process, not in the initial days of it when the Sixers can turn around and sign other RFA's or UFA's.

The deadline to accept the qualifying offer has already passed. He would have had to have done it by March 1st.

Because of the lack of teams with any cap space you could see some GM's playing hardball with their RFA's. This might lead to some contentious/bad blood type negotiations with a number of players signing 1 year tenders.

No sense in overpaying for these guys. Everyone wants the star money (Gordon, Iggy, Anderson Varejao ect) when they aren't stars. And the Cavs still ended up overpaying for Sasha and Varejao. Sasha isn't playing and Varejao's putting up 6/3 in the playoffs, lol.

Thanks Captain Obvious! Of course we'll match any offers for Iggy. However if i'm Iguodala and his agent, I'm a little hot right now hearing that statement. It kinda says that Ed will let Iggy go and sign whatever offer sheet he wants to in free agency, and match it. Rather than just sign Iggy to a new deal right now. Or at least sign the one that Iggy and his agent feel he's worth. Ed knows that Iggy's not going to get any high-priced offers cause no one,,,besides Memphis has any huge amount of free agent money other than the MLE which is just below what ? 6 million dollars. And Memphis has absolutely zero interest in Iguodala. Not with Miller and Gay there. Not to mention Crittenton, who could be a Combo SG and maybe even Rose. No chance of memphis even talking to Iggy's agent. As far as accepting the QO,,I highly doubt it. Iggy would be losing a guaranteed 4 to 5 million dollars next season. And with no guarantee that he will do better in next years free agent market. If Iggy does not sign a offer sheet in free agency,,,and he won't. And if talks stall between Iggy's agent and Ed. Then I guess we MIGHT see a scenario where Iggy's agent demands that Ed re-sign, and trade his client to another team who WOULD be willing to say give whatever contract that Iggy wants, but is over the Cap in return for players from that team. But I'm certain Ed just laughs that demand off :-)


Iguodala, as much as I love him and want him to stay, is really not in a position of strength here. That's why I have a feeling that Iggy and his agent aren't happy to hear that Ed said, he'll match whatever offer Iggy gets. Cause he knows he won't receive any.

This is where it could get interesting. Iggy could be moved to Phx for say Barbosa & the Atanta pick or to LAL for Odom & Turiaf or to the Bulls for TT, maybe Hinrich & their pick. Loads of opportunities will be there since Iguodala has lots of value around the league.

The amount of the qualifying offer for players on rookie "scale" contracts is based on the player's draft position (see question number 41). The qualifying offer for all other players must be for 125% of the player's previous salary, or the player's minimum salary (see question number 11) plus $175,000, whichever is greater. The qualifying offer must be for one season. A player can elect to accept his qualifying offer (the qualifying offer must be accepted by March 1) and play the following season under its terms. This is sometimes done in order to become an unrestricted free agent the following summer (see question number 38 ).

Yeah, VladRad definitely accepted it late as well.

Maybe it means by March 1st during that season? It can't have already passed, they can't even send the QOs out until draft night.

Stefanski will tell me early on how much he knows about basketball and just how integral of a role he played in overpaying a hobbled Vince Carter during this here offseason. I will know if we have the shrewed GM that traded away Kyle Korver, extended Cheeks 1 season, or if we have the guy that signed Vince Carter to an insane extention. All of this will rest on the Iguodala deal. If we sign Iguodala to a deal less than what he turned down then Ed knows his basketball. If he signs Iggy to the same contract or more and somehow doesn't move him in a trade for a better player(s) then the Sixers franchise is doomed an we will remain an non CHIP team for years to come.
