Worst officiated game of all time?

Post#1 » by shawngoat23 » Sun May 4, 2008 8:55 pm

There have been bad calls, and then there have been entire games which made a mockery of the integrity of the game. I was inspired to think about the question after reading an article on a poorly officiated game. For the sake of discussion, I won't reveal the game or article until later in the thread, and I'll also refrain from contributing my comments.

Which game do you think was the worst officiated of all time?

Sonics/Suns WCF is the only series that I watched and really thought was rigged.

In no particular order:

- (Since you didn't specifically say NBA games): the US/USSR gold medal game some 30-odd years ago
- Kings/Lakers game 6. The one where the Lakers spent the entire 4th quarter at the line; the one where Kobe opened up Bibby's nose with an elbow--and the foul was called on Bibby's nose; the one that prompted Ralph Nader to write a scathing letter to the NBA
- The Dallas/Miami series was pretty atrocious in general but I'd have a hard time choosing 1 game
- At least one of the games from the Spurs/Knicks finals nearly a decade ago.

I'm not a fan of the Kings but Game 6 against the Lakers in 2002 was just LOL inducing.

Dallas/Miami was the worst officiated Finals i've seen in history. I'm a Wade fan but damn did he get some luving that series.

Phx/SAS was terrible last season.

New England Patriots vs Baltimore Ravens. The Patriots should be 15-1. or 16-0 *

2002 Game 6, Lakers-Kings was atrocious. 27 FTs for the Lakers in one quarter??? (PS the Kings had 9)

Honorable Mention to Game 3 of the 2002 Wester Conference first round match up of LAL vs. Minnesota. Luckily the righteous team won in the end.
My Starting 5:

PG: Allen Iverson
SG: Paul Pierce
SF: Kevin Durant
PF: Kevin Garnett
C: Patrick Ewing

You guys guessed the game correctly (Game 6, Lakers-Kings). Here's the article: http://www.sacbee.com/100/story/297829.html

That Mavs-Heat series was quite bad too, and this is coming from someone who actually likes Wade.

That was 2003, but I don't think I saw the game.

I hate when fans cry about refs. It's always the losing team who does it and it's beyond annoying. Officiating is apart of the game. As a player you got to know how to adapt your game when the officials aren't going your way. And as fans of the losing team, you got to understand that players lose games. Not officials. Stop scapegoating them. It gets really old.

The fans that complain about refs seem pretty neutral in this thread. In fact, a Wade fan was even willing to admit that he got the benefit of the doubt himself, and even then, I hardly expect the team that benefited from bad calls to be complaining much.

What's your favorite team? That might explain a lot.

Edit: It seems Albanian is a Wolves fan, and his team won the game in question.
