I could see that, and he'd be a decent fit!

But who do you keep longterm at PF -- Josh or Horford?

Diop would be the backup...

Our ultra-athletic frontcourt has been a big reason we can hang with the Cs. As those guys continue to mature they are gonna bew a huge mismatch every night.

Keep Horford and Smith. Trade Marvin Williams, re-sign Childress. Starting line-up:

Bibby
Johnson
Smith
Horford
Diop

Off the bench:
Childress for Diop
Pachulia/Andersen for Horford
Law for Bibby

That's the 8-man rotation. That's not including David Andersen, who will likely be brought over in the summer for 3 years and 14 mill. yes, he's worth it because he's very smart and talented offensively and he offsets Diop D w/ his O and vice versa.

I am an outsiders but why would you have to choose between horford and Josh. Josh looks like he could play the 3 and 4 while horford could play the 4 and 5. You guys have a bright future with Joe, Al, and Josh; as long as the hawks have a core of these three and the role players, you guys will have a wonderful future.

Before i go i will have to grill you guys a little, lol. Even though Willams is a great role player and all, i will never understand why you guys choose him over the likes of Paul and Deron. If you had one of those two your future would be brighter then it already is.

When I read this thread I was actually thinking Camby... Diop would be a cheaper alternative though... Although I do question how effective he would be running up and down with the Hawks.

well your right about that bucs , but we wouldn't have horford and probably not bibby either.

but at the time marvin was the #2 pick , and just to bring that past draft up , deron was selected over paul.

i mean don't get us wrong , we all wanted paul , we knew we needed a PG , but the fans don't draft .. just the gm

I don't know Andersen, so I can't comment...

Smith at SF? Didn't you try that early in his career with poor results? His jumper still looks shaky. And, why put him on the perimeter to defend when he and Diop could form a major defensive presence as interior shotblockers?

Will you match any offer for Childres, just so he can be a backup?

I agree with most of what you have said but its hard not to think what could have been. If the hawks did pick paul or deron and still had last years 3rd pick a team of paul/deron, joe, smith, horford and childress would be title winning team in a few years.

Opposing teams would love us to be that stupid.

Josh Smith is clearly a 4.

Marvin/Smoove/Horford is a far better front court than that one. More athletic, more mismatches.

Our starting lineup is fine. It's the backup C that we need help at

Diop would be good as a backup but I wouldn't want him to be the Hawks starter. I also don't want Diop bouncing around anymore, so I hope he gets the longterm contract he desires, and learns the system well.

There is nothing wrong with our starting 4/5.

You'd think people would get that hint seeing how we've faired this post-seaosn.

Horford can play the 5 in the NBA. And he's only a freaking rookie. When he adds even more strength and skill it will be beyond absurd to suggest otherwise.

Our problem has been getting contribution from our BENCH at those positions.

We can only hope Solomon Jones develops and he gets more PT next season

The more I think about I doubt it happens. Diop should be able to get most if not all of someone's MLE. If we are serious about bringing over David Andersen, then I don't think we'd have the full MLE to pitch Diop on.

If I'm mistaken and we can sign Andersen to a couple million deal without using part of the MLE then great, but I wouldn't expect that to be the case.

horford is a better center now than diop will ever be... diop would be a GREAT back up... we need to keep our cour guys together remember 4 years ago we won 13 games and now we are in a game 7 against a team that has the best regular season record... our players have developed exponentially and none of those draft picks since then has reached 25!

Fair enough. I thought he'd be a good fit in the starting line-up to help protect the rim and give Horford more touches on offense, which he deserves. Thanks for the input and opinions on him as a Hawk.
