Oden is NOT going to be a scorer for his first couple of seasons. Portland has plenty of offensive options, and Oden's game isn't refined on that end of the floor.

If he's fully recovered, I'll predict 9 ppg, 11 rpg, 3 bpg as a rookie, with most of his buckets on offensive rebounds. He may very well peak as a 20 ppg defensive monster, but that's a few years away.

I see a simular season to Al Horford this year...Average a double-double around 13 and 11 with maybe 2 blocks

He definetly has the potential

Could we at least wait to see the kid play in an NBA game before we anoint him?

For all we know, he could end up being Kwame Brown (although I doubt it)

He won't be Kwame Brown, he's equally athletic, with great hands, and a much better wingspan and standing reach, and he's a little taller and heavier, not to mention his post skills, timing, instincts are all clearly better than Kwame's.

Oden should be able to do what Tyson Chandler does, and then some, thanks to his jump hook, his 40-50 pounds of bulk, and his instincts defensively.

Yup. If Kobe was offered to them for Fernandez, they would turn down the Lakers.

Man that's cuz Fernandez will be MVP next year and Oden the year after.

You're goddamn right, and there's not a single Blazers fan I know that would. Kobe Bryant is the most hated player among Blazers fans by a pretty fair margin.

As far as Oden goes, look at it this way: Portland had a lot of weaknesses (rebounding, interior scoring, consistent interior defense) that the fanbase and the franchise feel can be solved simply by adding Greg Oden into the fold. Eliminating those weaknesses may propel Portland back into its playoff mainstay status from the '90s, with the high probability of being an even better team.

So yeah...Blazers fans are excited and even delusional, and above all else willing to defend him. But know where they come from before you call out the fanbase.

And to put things into perspective Oden has a better freshman year than Duncan, Robinson, Olajuwon, Mourning and Ewing.

I don't expect him to be challenging for the MVP in two years but given that he's a lot more advanced than Howard was coming into the league, even bigger and arguably as athletic, he should be in the discussion in four years time just like Howard is now.

Greg Oden's got two other things going for him that a lot of guys don't mention either.

Before his wrist injury, his last year of high school, he shot 80% from the foul line.... That's phenomenal for a guy that is going to draw a crap load of fouls. Now you have a monster in the paint and defensively, that you can't take out of the game with fouls.

2, he's just flat out a winner, he's won on every level he has played, I think he and Conley have lost like a total of 1 home game since middle school, or something crazy like that.

15.7ppg 9.6rpg 3.3bpg 61%FG 28mpg is crazy for such a young guy with so much room for growth, WHO WAS PLAYING ON ONE HAND.

The only way Greg Oden won't be a dominant player is if the injuries are really bad.

The people who are saying Oden doesn't come anywhere close to Dwight athletically are just wrong. Dwight is more athletic, but is is close.

I hate to rain on the victory parade, but this is ONLY if his body can keep it together.

Dude's got one leg shorter than the other, which throws the whole body off.

If he can stay healthy through an entire grueling season, he has the skills to develop into a AAA NBA player.

If he's constantly nagged by injuries........ :noway:

In all seriousness though, I see Oden as being a slightly better Emeka Okafor. Then again, that's also how I see Bynum. Guys who can rebound, block shots, and play solid post D. I really don't see why people think he's going to be putting up 20ppg any time soon.

oden/bynum will completely and udderly dominate emeka okafor 2 years from now. no offense to okafor he's a solid player and plays an important part on the bobcats  but he doesnt stand a chance going up against oden or bynum
