I think they would have ran Shaq off the floor.

Didn't they crush Miami in the regular season?

No matter how good your offense is...

You must get stops..

even if they just play defense in the last 5 minutes... it can be done.

But the Suns of this season, simply too old, and were already bad in defense...

it'll be interesting how the suns will re-tool.... a defensive wing short of another good run I think.

maybe in a couple of years if he signs onto a contender to be a backup pg, thats what only way i see it happening
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

Miami was a different team in the playoffs, plus the playoffs a good deal of the time aren't indicative to regular season situations. Being a whole new ball game because of what is involved with playoff basketball.

Miami upped their defensive focus and energy in the playoffs, noticably. That was why they made their title run.

Shaq/Wade creating and scoring offensively w/ the support players, and their defense, would of dictated the tempo over the course of the series. And I'd say Riley outcoaches D'Antoni with adjustments.

Phoenix couldn't of slowed down Wade and Shaq enough, if much at all. With their lack of size and inconsistent at best and limited defensive ability.

Miami also could of went small to go up-tempo at times with Haslem/Walker/Posey/Wade/Williams or Payton.

He probably won't win any a title.

Rollin my eyes at a bunch of the unthoughtout cliches spouted here though. "defense wins championships"? Nah, good teams win championships. You want to have good defense, but you also want good offense. Statistically there's no evidence that teams can do more without offense than defense. "run n' gun doesn't work in the playoffs"? Nash's Suns have lost to exactly one franchise who had a better regular season record than them, and that franchise is known for coasting in the regular season. Underperforming in the playoffs has to mean losing to clearly worse regular season teams, or else its utterly meaningless, and Phoenix does not qualify given those criteria.

2 MVP's, another first team All-NBA, and a likely second All-NBA this year equals four really good seasons, not two or three. And he'll likely have another good one next season if Phoenix isn't blown up.

I think in a way, why "defense wins championships" is said, is because most teams are going to be able to play competitive offense. But at the same time, a lot of teams don

scoring more points than the other team wins championships, doesn't matter how you achieve that

Though I like a stout D, because you can always count on it, more so than prolific offense.

it's all relative. All the good teams that won championships have had a solid defense. Obviously, defense is not everything but is a vital key. You need to make stops to pull a comeback or to gain the lead. spurs -solid. three peat lakers - solid. Bulls, solid with jordan rodman and pippen. Showtime lakers --solid trapping.

phx -- the only thing solid is their defensive ineptness.
