after watching what Bibby can do for this team, it seems like all the Hawks need is a PG with limited PG skills, who can hit threes, hit big shots in the 4th, and is an average athlete who can play some half decent defense.
so you would think that if you take out Bibby and put in Iverson, then this team is competeing for a finals appearance.
Ben Gordon might also be a guy who can fill this roll
...... if their was only a way to get rid of Bibby and Speedy's contract.

Gordon is not a point guard but would probably better than Bibby. I've always felt he was a little underrated but he's a free agent and we have no cap room.
Iverson just isn't as good as his numbers show. I mean...he's a very good player but he just isn't elite. The Sixers actually improved more than the Nuggets and all they got out of the trade was Andre Miller and Jason Smith.Of course I'd rather have him over Bibby but it would take more. There's also talk that he wants a six year extension which is ridiculous.

Iverson is definately an elite player. The problem in Dever right now is Melo and the fact that Kenyon Martin and Najara are the only bigs they have that play any semblance of defense. Iverson at least plays passing lanes and tries to stay in front of people on the ball. He is a elite level playmaker also, and scorer. Melo will break flow just to get his shots up at times.
And I am just going to respectfully disagree with the sixers improving more with that trade. Thaddius Young had nothing to do with the trade and him getting more minutes in the second half of the season had just as much to do with the Sixers getting to the playoffs as anything.

hmmmm...
Who does that describe that is already wearing a hawks uniform....
I honestly have no idea who that person is. I thought you meant Bibby but then I saw the decent defense part.

My point was, and always has been, we don't need a REAL point guard for this team to be successful. We need a guy that can shoot the ball and play decent D.
Salim has some point guard skills but will never be confused for a point. He can run a break, he can run the pick and roll better than Bibby at this point, and...thats about it.
But what they really need for this team is a outlet to take pressure off Joe. Thats what salim could be. If Joe would accept being an outlet instead of the GUY, we would be better served with a real point guard and Salim wouldn't fit that bill.
But since that obviously isn't the case, and our offense will consist of JJ with the ball 90% of the time, why in gods name do we need a pure point guard to bring the ball up and give it to JJ?
