Kings will need to trade, draft or sign at least 2 PG's in the off season, and right now they only have the MLE & LLE to sign players with.
They'll probably spend most (if not all) of their MLE on Beno Udrih and rightly so, not only does he fill a need, but he proved to be a solid player.
Kings aren't likely to get much of anything out of the player that they sign for the LLE, so that means they're going to have to draft or trade for another PG. I think that's at least part of the reason the TJ Ford/Ron Artest idea is interesting to alot of us.
The draft comes before FA though.

Because we thought we were in running for Brad Miller when that happened? I don't think we can get a franchise player, but I do thing given the right situation we could make a move.
Just an FYI had we kept Chris Webber $20+ million would be expiring!
KANGZZZZZ!

The bottom line really again is we have no true cap space to sign anyone but beno but only for a reasonable ammount !
Aside from that keep in mind we have a 1st and 2 2nd round draft picks if we dont sign anthony johnson or lorenzen wright wich i think we all can agree nobody expects them to be brought back we have 12 man roster with 3 draft picks thats 15 if we dont trade them plus a look at the summer leauge roster so our roster will be full unless we buy out k9 or reef retires (not likely to either but more likely to buy out k9 in my opinion )
We need to stay the course and barring a major steal of a trade we need to stand pat tha past 2 years have been rough next season will likely be but at this point 09/10 we have a massive ammount of expirings that the salaries can be used for trades or come straight off the books for big money to sign 1 or 2 big names
the following will be off the books then :
kenny thomas (finally ! see ya )
shareef abdul rahiim (gone no way we will resign )
brad miller ( wont be back likely even though he is good he would have to take a huge paycut i doubt he will )
mikki moore ( i dont see him back simply because i believe when petrie signed him it was simply because he thought with the team we had he was a missing piece for us to make the playoffs)
sheldon williams (possibly we would resign i think next season will determine that most likely ! )
next year will likely be rough also but hopefully better & promising
STAY THE COURSE AND WE WILL SOON AGAIN HAVE A VERY BRIGHT FUTURE I SAY !

Do we have to wait to do trades until the FA period?
I believe teams out of the playoffs can trade players who are under contract past this season and they can certainly trade picks. I doubt much happens, though, until after the lottery.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

If Josh Smith wants out of ATL, then the Kings propose a sign and trade of:
Mikki
SAR
Hawes or (rights to #12 pick DeAndre Jordan?)
2009 first round pick
Hawks give
Josh Smith
6 years starting at 10 million
1 - Have you seen anything suggesting that Josh Smith wants out of ATL?
2 - If anything like that were to occur, wouldn't they just have made it part of the Bibby trade?
3 - In 2 years the Kings are going to have quite a bit of expiring money, and may have also accumulated some additional draft picks by then. There's no need to try and swing for the fences before it makes sense to do so.
4 - This is a thread about free agents, which isn't what you're suggesting here.

Yeah, Brad was acquired via S&T. But I just don't see many likely S&T scenarios where we'd get a big difference-maker.
And yeah, the difference if we had never traded Chris would have been Kenny's deal off the books this summer, but Chris's deal on the books all of last year (where as Corliss and Skinner had already expired). Then again, that contract probably would have kept us from signing SAR, but also from signing John and Mikki.
And we wouldn't have had a better team at any point really, so meh.
