Why does Perkins do the Tip-off?

Kevin Garnett has an inch or two on Perkins and I am sure his vertical is a lot greater... Kevin Garnett did it all the time for the Twolves

Is it just me or does Perkins not get the tip that often..
even Josh smith who is 6'9 but with a great vertical beat Perkins, I doubt he would get to the ball before Garnett

Your thoughts?

Um... I'm pretty sure I saw Garnett do the tip-off today. That said, it's not like getting the first possession matters much. You'll get it for two quarters anyway.

i'm pretty sure perk did it today, he's been doing it all season. i havent understood it either, KG gets up a lot higher than perk can. maybe its jus one of those lil things that KG gives up. maybe perk wants to do it, idk.

It's ceremonial, there are hundreds of possessions in basketball, each team starts an equal two quarters per game anyways. I have a better question though ... how can you have a Laker screen-name, and a Celtics avatar?

There are many possible reasons:

1) A friend made the name
2) I am too lazy to make a new account because the admins are now very strict about the e-mail you use? Try making a new account.
3) I could be related to Turiaf or have some infatuation with him.. but more with the celtics.
4) I could share this account with a brother that likes the Lakers

I have a better question though.. why do you care honestly..

Winning the tip is a psychological edge. You get to start out the game.

More importantly, in a tight 4th quarter game, you get one free possession. If you watch players calling timeouts to save one possession, you can see the importance of it.

It is a fair question, just because there are no virtually no Celtic fans who could tolerate having a Laker screen name.

The important thing is that you keep it a secret though. You know- Homeland Security.

I would guess it's a defensive decision. If the tip goes to the other team and they bum rush their goal would you rather have garnett back on defense or perkins? Just a guess though.

i thjink its a defensive thing too, but i also think it sets the tone for matchups, meaning the other forward is forced to intially at least matchup with garnett. But most importantly I think we forget that perk has like a 7"2 wingspan.

I suppose but I am leaning to - the it doesn't matter that much theory. Garnett just doesn't feel like doing it. Heck Pierce beat Horford in a jump ball so its not even a matter of length.. Sometimes it's just luck as the guy throwing it up can screw up..
