Trade Thoughts
Just had this on my mind.
Obviously we need to re-sign Josh Smith...right now it's looking like a max deal, but at this point it's going to be 'whatever it takes.' Just can't afford to lose him.
Also, Speedy is not tradeable...best case is to get him to retire.
I think our most tradeable assets are Marvin + Bibby. Bibby because he has an expiring $13M, and Marvin may still be considered a "young talent." At the very least this series should teach us that both players are expendable if we can land a key position (C) or another star-type player.
Centers:
1.) Camby (especially if Denver is looking to cut some money, he could be a possibility). Bibby for him straight up works salary-wise, but it depends how much Denver wants to just rebuild.
2.) Bogut. He has steadily improved. If they'd take Marvin for him straight up (doubt it), it would probably be a great trade for us. And if you watched him this season his D is probably 'above average' this year. I think he'd complement Horford well in the frontcourt.
3.) Kaman. You never know what the Clips are doing - blowing up, building??? If we can get him while keeping JJ/Smith/Horford it would totally be worth it. He can really thrive alongside Horford in the East. Probably too hard to get him though.
Others:
1.)Josh Howard. I think he's going to be available this summer based on his playoffs this season and his marijuana comments. Marvin as the centerpiece for him could get it done (I think). That'd actually be an awesome trade for us. I think Marvin + Zaza would get it done...definitely worth considering.
2.) Allen Iverson. I know, I know. But I think Denver is ready to blow it up. Marvin + Bibby gets this done. He fills seats and plays PG...and he was probably the most 'mature' player on the Nuggets this season, for what it's worth. Hawks would be interesting though: AI/JJ/Smith/Horford as the core.
3.) Elton Brand. I know. But he might opt out this offseason. If we could work out something where Bibby/Marvin/Childress goes in the other direction, he'd be awesome. Too much of a dream scenario though.
4.) Dirk. Another dream scenario. Interestingly, Bibby + Marvin works as far as salary. I only bring it up because Gasol was traded for Crit + a bag of chips...
5.) TJ Ford. I think he'll be available as far as PG go...probably better to have him than Bibby, but I question his health issues.
Bottom line: Resign Josh Smith. Trade Marvin and/or Bibby for one of those 3 centers, otherwise try to get Howard.

Josh Howard is obviously my first choice if the Mavs are dumb enough to trade him. I also wouldn't mind going after Nene if they are just going to give him away(ala Chandler)because of the luxury tax. Bibby for Nene/Atkins works on the trade checker. If Dallas wouldn't trade Dirk for Kobe last year then my guess is that he isn't available. Bogut is another guy who is probably close to untouchable on your list.

I think it's the other way around. If Howard is available(which they say) then Marvin may or may not be enough for him. I don't think we could get Bogut for Horford or Smith....we would have no chance at getting him for Marvin.

I agree Bogut would be too hard to get. I think Howard is a reachable target because his stock is low right now and Dallas is probably going to shop him around. If Cuban thinks Marvin is a younger better version, I think they'd pull the trigger. Plus, it would save them some money.
How sick would we be with a core of JJ/Howard/Smith/Horford. We'd probably still need a bigger PG than Bibby...

I like Bogut for Marvin, but lets not get overboard with his defense. He plays Camby defense. He still stands stills after showing on the pick and roll and doesn't attempt to get back to his man. Thats just kinda unexcusable, Amare level of sucking on defense right there.
(sorry, still have a high from the Hawks and a bitter pill from the Suns)

Al horford can play center in this leauge... nearly a double-double as a rookie 6-10 plus is good for a center but diop would be a very good role player... josh smith and marvin williams have shown they can coexist in this league josh is developing into a slasher with some outside shot ability and marvin has a great mid range game just needs more post skills... i don't think we need to make trades this offseason really a couple free agent signings bring over cenk akyol from europe and keep growing as a team

I think losing Smith would just be a huge step backwards, especially after the goodwill established in the postseason. I don't think Biedrins is enough to offset that.
When I see Marvin play, at no point do I think he can take over a game and be a superstar player.

I still think we should go after Redd. We need a legit scorer to go along with JJ. With Redd on the floor that will take a lot of the defensive pressure off JJ. Plus Smith won't be hanging out on the perimeter as much.
Bibby/Marvin for Redd was agreeable to Bucks fans. They are ready to blow it up and build around Bogut I believe. I think that would be a great deal for the Hawks.

We are not trading Smith...I wouldn't trade him unless we got a star in return which wont happen. I think Bibby and Marvin need to go. I would love to see a guy like Calderon take Bibby's place. I would also like to see Marvin go for a big. Marvin's cealing is still very high. I think we could get a lot for him, especially to a rebuilding team who will be able to reseign him for 7 mill or so.

It is hard to imagine Smith not being here. Think about all those new fans we made over the playoffs, the games that people came to... the ones that we won, Smith was HUGE.
Most trades would be bad basketball moves and that is compounded by being bad business moves.
I hope he stays, I also hope we come up with a way to keep him from shooting long jumpers.
