82 games: Team Defensive Shooting Stats (uh oh)

Post#1 » by crkone » Mon May 5, 2008 3:40 pm

To really get a grip on how bad our defensive stats are, take a look here.

We allowed 42% on 2 point jump shots (worst in the league) assisted 55% of the time, 38.4% on 3 pointers (4th worst in the league), and 60.2% on inside shots (12th worst, tied with Boston) assisted 54% of the time(upper 1/3 of league).

We allowed the opposition to shoot 2 point jump shots 39% of the time (2nd smallest amount in league), 23% of shots were 3 ptrs (tied for fourth most with 8 other teams), and 37% of shots allowed were inside shots (tied with LAC and PHI for 2nd most. Now what does all of this mean?

I think it means that we didn't do that stupid "make them shoot it in the yard" plan that LK "demanded". The good defensive teams either made other teams shoot 2 point jumpers at low percentages or as is Detroit's case, inside shots at lower percentages. Even though we allowed an abysmal 42% on 2 pointers, teams didn't take advantage of it. They instead feasted on the 3 point line or drove it to the hoop. Our team was absolute garbage. :nonono:

So what you're saying is that teams could do whatever they wanted offensively against the Bucks. That sounds about right.

If you're getting 38% 3pointers or 60% inside shots, why go with 42% jump shots, even if it is a league high?

Just on FG% (not TO's):
114 points in 100 possessions - 3 ptrs
120 points in 100 possessions - inside
84 points in 100 possessions - jump shots
