I am a huge Mike Bibby fan, but one thing i havent heard much about is what are the plans for the Hawks after Mike's contract is up.

Do you guys plan to re-sign him or what?

Thanks guys... and of course, best of luck against the crappy Celtics in game 7. Toronto bars will be PACKED with Hawks supporters.

Not being a hawks fan, i would think the hawks would want to keep him but at a lesser price.

I'm pretty sure he'll be gone after next season. He's getting up there in age and I don't know how many more years of being a quality starting PG he has left (even this season he has not completely earned that).

I'd imagine we'd make him an offer, but he's a guy I can see someone overpaying for.

I think it is a money issue. He's not a 14M a year player anymore. The big question is if the two sides can agree on what he is worth. He's under contract for another year, but I would expect some negotiations this summer to decide if it will work long term. If they can't agree I wouldn't be surprised if he's dealt. As a 14M expiring contract he's got value to acquire a talented player from a rebuilding team if any are available. I have trouble believing that they will let him play out the final year of his deal and walk (although knowing the ASG, it's possible). It's too risky.

alright, i didn't want to say this during the series, but now that it is over, is their anyway we can dump Bibby for a first round pick???

would Denver take him for a first round pick and cap space? George Karl might like a guy like Bibby, a guy who jack up 3s and doesn't play defense.

One month ago there was a poll asking whether we shop Bibby and everyone said no emphatically. Funny how one slump changes everyone's opinions.

I'd like to see what Bibby looks like healthy and with a full training camp and preseason with his teammates under his belt.

It's not directed at anyone. But there was a poll on here about a month ago regarding whether we shop him and people were completely against it. How can you be so supportive of a guy tand then completely turn on him because of one bad stretch?

Depends on how bad the contracts we are taking back are and how badly they want to move them. I doubt there is a team so desperate to shed a bad contract that they'd give up their pick. Furthermore, I don't think the Hawks want to get younger necessarily.

The teams that I think could be looking to deal for a large expiring contract are:
Toronto (TJ Ford/Kapono for Bibby or Ford/Nestorvic for Bibby and future pick)
Milwaukee (Redd and Mo Williams for Bibby/Marvin)
Memphis (Miller/Cardinal/Lowry for Bibby)
Denver (Nene/Hunter for Bibby)
New York (Curry/Crawford for Bibby)

None of those necessarily get a pick, but some may yield serious talent. I like the top 3 the best because each yields a PG replacement. In the Milwaukee and Memphis scenarios we'd move Joe to SF. I wouldn't touch Curry, but I listed it because I think it is a deal we could get if we wanted because it would trim a couple years of contract off their cap. The Milwaukee deal is a long shot because it requires them to realize they are going nowhere but mediocrity with their current core. Memphis is also a long shot because Chris Wallace is still smarting from the backlash on his last salary dump move. Taking Cardinal's salary should be enough to get the deal done, but with him being gun shy who knows?

i'm really just trying to find a way the Hawks can make an offer to Baron Davis, or Ben Gordon..... but i think Damon Stoudamire and even Sam Cassel could do better than Bibby.

For Ben Gordon, I think you have offer a sign and trade taking on a contract they want to move with him (Nocioni after BYC ends or Hughes). I don't see anyway to get Baron, because even if he opts out of his deal I don't think they'd be inclined to sign and trade him.

I kinda like Acie Law. I don't see giving a big, long term contract to a guy to be the starting point. I like the kids upside as the furture leader of the team.

I think a legit back up Shooting guard should be our focus and a defensive, rebounding back up big.

I just don't see spending big money on anyone not on this team already. We need tweaks, not overhauls.

But ED, Wallace isn't going to be gun shy. The guy is just a horrible GM. He will keep making bad deals until someone in Memphis notices.

haha I remember that.

I think the Hawks have to shop him. I don't see resigning him as an option at all.

All it would have taken was for BK to just pick Brandon Roy.

He has had so many chances to make this team better than it is.
Now we have 3 young forwards who to me don't have a defined role going forward on this team. There are questions regarding all 3.

We just had to slot Roy with JJ and Al and we would have a dynamite 3-some!

Now, no draft picks, so you have to be creative. Until we resolve our GM and coach positions, don't look for any creative moves from this organization.

And since BK lost out on his battle to fire Woody, has anyone heard from him? Talk about a non-existent GM!

Folks the man is not healthy. Let's see what he can do healthy with this team for the first half of the season next year. If we are 4 or 5 in the east at the break I say keep him. If not trade him at the deadline.

Being healthy won't make him smarter. I can't remember seeing a veteran pg jump to pass as much as Bibby and that is the cardinal sin for a pg.

Even healthy he isn't quick at all.

If Bibs is healthy I still see him as an above average PG. And I think Smoove/JJ/Horford are all good enough to make up for his weaknesses. Then after his contract runs up I say we let him walk.

I thnk he WAS an above average PG, but seriously, he is pretty bad at passing on the pick and roll. Maybe he can get that shot back to consistant levels and such, but I am serious when I say i would much rather roll the dice on Acie as our starting point instead of using another year on Bibby when we aren't going to resign him.

I mean, if he has a bad year, we won't want him back, and if he has a good year, he is going to want too much money and I know management won't be willing to sacrafice Marvin or someone else for a old point guard.
