Woodson wanted Chris Paul or Deron over Marvin?
I've heard and read a few different sources that Woody tried to get BK to draft those two over Marvin and also tried to get him to get Roy the year he was available. You think this is true or just Woody spreading rumors to keep his job?
If it counts luck is worth the same as skill

want to keep Woody around and give him more time? I don't think so.
Definitely BK can go. Can you imagine the trades he has tried to put together that he hasn't been successful with?
You don't want BK running another draft for us. Right now, his average is average at best.
Now I know we picked Josh Smith at 17, but there was talk that he would have been around a lot longer. At that time, I was pushing for Jameer Nelson myself. Not sure if that would have been a good move, but Jameer is the PG for Dwight Howard.
I think we go as far with a number of other coaches/GMs in this position.
Since we aren't part of the lottery or the draft, we have more time to decide if we can get someone better to lead this team back to the playoffs.

I can blame Woody for a lot of things. But our disastrous situation at PG is not one them.
Woody didn't want Conley last year... I remember he said Conley "can't shoot."

Well in that case I guess we can get rid of Billy and keep Woodson around afterall... promote Woodson to GM and hire a new coach

You can't say that he "doesn't compare" just because of where they both were drafted. No team between Memphis and Atlanta really needed a PG. Conley may have more natural PG instincts, but I don't see anything that makes him that much better than Law. And I have criticized Law a ton this season.
Anyways, it seems like Woodson and BK are doing the best they can to save their own asses.

Beat me to it. That's exactly what I thought when reading the comments, let him GM, but please hire a real coach.

That's the other thing I thought. I'm taking every public rumor with a big grain of salt. You got a couple of guys angling for turf and throwing mud (even indirectly). I just say evaluate each for what they actually did over the last 4 years and I think the result is clear that neither won deserves another long contract. You might be able to argue for a 1 year extension, but a 1 year extension doesn't really work in the NBA.

Sheldon Williams at #5 = No defense for this one.
Is the first part really true though?
It's not so much a question of who they had higher on their draft board but who they would pick if they were the Atlanta Hawks .

Well to rip's credit, yes, a lot of the media like Marv a lot because they thought his passiveness was "coachability".
Still, even that moron Chad Ford said that while we got the best player, not taking a point guard could come back to haunt us.
Plus , BK should be doing his own evaluations and not listening to the media, he certainly didn't listen to them when he picked Shelden Williams.

Actually....
From a topic on the Hawks forum back in April '06 regarding the upcoming draft...
The original question regarded a Mock Draft. Assuming the Hawks had pick #4, and the first three to go were Morrison, Aldridge, and Gay:
Andrea Bargnani ----- 4 votes
Tyrus Thomas ----- 4 votes
Sheldon Williams ---- 2 votes
Tiago Splitter ----- 2 votes
Brandon Roy ------- 2 votes
Randy Foye -------- 1 vote
So that means that 12 Hawks fans at the time wanted another Forward, and 3 wanted a Guard.... And that's not even including who might have wanted Gay, if he was available instead of Bargnani and Thomas...
And, in fact, as many people wanted Sheldon as wanted Roy. With the *4th* pick.
So maybe BK's decision isn't as questionable as some would like to make it look, in hindsight...

Just because 2 people didn't have the foresight to see the glaring flaws in Shelden's game doesn't excuse a paid GM. Conceptually toughness, D, and rebounding were things we could use. The problem is we needed those at the C position and it was then and still is now a big stretch that Shelden could play C in the NBA. If you are adding those in a PF you do in the 2nd round like everyone else and not spend the #5 pick on it. (#4 in that survey).
I don't remember voting in that particular poll, but I spent the entire month before the draft angling for Randy Foye or Brandon Roy and I'm sure you can find those posts also. The thing I was wrong about was saying that Shelden was reasonable value as a banger at #14. He was reasonable value in the 2nd round.
