i know no one in here wants to trade smith , unless it's for a allstar in return , but you got to look at the salary cap issue , smith is going to get close to max , and we already got bibby , j.j and now soon to be smith.
the player with the most trade value right now is smith , so if the right deal came along i would do it.
i think we need more depth

Bibby is expiring. W hy would you trade a 22 year old that averaged around 18 points 8 rebounds 3 blocks and 2 steals. So you can hold on to a 30 year old injury prone streak shooting PG with an expiring deal?
The goal is to make the team better. You don't trade one of your best players to add depth. you get rid of guys you don't use on the bench and get your bench better with role players.

i want bibby gone as well
yes the goal is to make the team better , and i feel by trading smith for a better rounded out team will help us in the long run.
if i could package bibby and filler for a better PG i would do it.
i am all about improving the team , but the fact is we won't be able to afford superstars like the celtics or lakers , we are ranked 28th in team salary only ahead of the grizz and the bobcats.

That isn't an issue. A lot of good teams have 3 players with big contracts (Suns, Spurs, Lakers, Celtics, Jazz, etc) and Bibby won't have a big contract for long.

You don't improve the team by "rounding it out", you improve it by making sure that you have talented players.
Trading Smith for "a center" isn't a good move. Trading Smith for an all-ster center? Sure.
Which teams won titles because they "made themselves more well rounded"?
Even the Pistons, the modern day epitome of well balanced, played without "a true C" for their titles (and now).

but i am worried about the salary cap issues we have coming up with our players , if only we had more money to spread around , sucks being down at the bottom in terms of team salary.
haha, stop saying that.
The lower you are on that chart the better.

I do not see a reaosn to trade Smith at this point. We got to decide on our coach first. I said it before and trully believe with a new/better coach his game will improve ( better shot selection/ boxing out / rebounding/ decrese TOs ). I'd considera trade if it was a good offer. Now, we DO NOT NEED A PICK ( young players to develop now). This team isn't rebuilding anymore. Why trade him for #3 , #5 , or wahtever it is ? You trade him for someone as good, not CV, Mason, and guys like that.
GO HAWKS.

smith for biedrins and 14th pick , i think we do need a pick somewhere in the middle and draft a Center
Javale Mcgee
bibby/law
joe/salim/west
marvin/childress
horford/solo/DA
biedrins/mcgee/zaza
we get a lot more size and inside presence , not a bad starting 5 , after that trade all we got to do is improve our pg situation.

I don't think Smith has the greatest trade value. For one, he can't be traded draft night. He can be Signed and Traded in July. Even then it would be at near max price. Is his value as great to another franchise for that price? Not sure. I mean he's not in the no brainer category of Lebron or Dwight Howard. There's enough flaws in his game that he could still flop. I think he has the work ethic to succeed, but the situation has to be right for him.
Depending on the team, Bibby's 14M expiring contract could be very desirable. Let's say you have an player making 51M over the next 3 years and while this player is nice, you want to go a new direction? Trading them straight up for a player with 1yr 14.5M deal might make you a bidder in the next few free agent classes. Bottom line is that to clear cap quickly you need to be able to get a large expiring deal in return and only a couple of those are out there.

We need to keep Smith. He's one of the most versatile players in the game and is definitely our best shot blocker. The player I'd look to move is Marvin Williams. He didn't impress me much in the playoffs and is up for a contract extension in a year.
If the Mavericks are looking to move Josh Howard, how about this move...
Hawks get:
Howard (once his BYC status comes off)
Mavericks get:
Marvin Williams
Zaza Pachulia
-A trio of Johnson, Howard, and Smith would be sick nasty. Howard would give us a consistent scorer and someone who can play lockdown defense.

There are a total of 96 minutes at the 4 and 5 spots. Even with both Smith and Horford here and playing 35 minutes each that still leaves 26 minutes.
I don't have a problem with Horford playing some time at center. I just don't like him playing 30 minutes there. he is just going to get worn down banging against bigger guys all the time.
He really needs to start using his quickness against other centers. This past series whenever he posted Perkins it took him sooo long to get into his move. He should just spin quickly and blow right by Perkins. he could do that every time.
I would trade Smith only if i could get a legit star in return.

You have been saying he should do that all along. I agree with you. I can buy that he would be at an advantage guarding PFs on defense but being a PF on offense isn't going to help him unless he can get a face-up game. Boozer gets defended by Cs almost exclusively... he had his best series when he was up against Yao and could destroy him away from the basket. Al Jefferson is almost always defended by centers too, and probably will be for his career. David West, Elton Brand, Dirk, I can't think of a single elite offensive PF that doesn't have an advanced face-up game that he can use to destroy centers if they guard him. If Al can't get better facing up then we shouldn't move our roster around to put him at PF, if he can, I think we should keep him at center and let him and Smith be permanant mismatches in the frontcourt.
