Did Shaq rub off on Wade?
Wade used to be hard working, aggressive, cared more about the game than anything, he was an underdog, scrappy, didn't talk much and let his game speak for him.
Now i'm a wade fan but after the Shaq era wade became kind of Shaq like. He started talking more, he gained weight, he shoots a lot more commercials now, self promotes more, he doesn't play as hard on defense, and has more of a prima donna superstar attitude today than the ultimate underdog from the hood doing whatever it takes to win gig like before.
Can Shaq's damage be undone?

First of all, you always come on here and talk crap about the Heat. We know your agenda.
Second, there are two ways to interpret your "after the Shaq era" description. Either, one, you mean when Shaq joined the Heat. If thats what you mean, then obviously, yes he got more publicity when Shaq joined the Heat. Are you saying he stopped working hard and lost his aggression his second season in the league? The one where he was a rib injury away from the Finals? What about the next year when they won the Championship? And the only weight he gained during that period was all the muscle he put on before the 06 season.
Now lets try the second interpretation and assume "after the Shaq era" means "after Shaq left." If this is what you mean you're implying that Wade gained all the weight he gained (yes he has put on some extra pound-age since the knee surgery), started talking to the media and shooting commercials, started promoting his companies in press conferences, started slacking on defense, and developed a "prima donna" attitude AFTER Shaq was traded. That is ridiculously false and shows how out of touch you are with the NBA.
Which one is it?

Well first of all, Wade's defense was never anything special. His footwork on defense is average; usually gets beat one on one but can pick up a few steals and he can block shots with the best of them in his position.
Secondly, he is starting his offseason workout today with Grover, Jordan's ex trainer and the same trainer Wade and Antoine Walker worked out with in the championship year, and is looking into [quoted by him] being in the best shape of his playing career.
So there goes the "fat" "unmotivated" "not hard working" logic.
Also, if money does talk, I'm sure it is advising him how to get that money. If he wants another max contract, he's going to have to earn it. Your name doesn't give you money and it certaintly isn't going to get Brand or Arenas a max contract this offseason; you have to be able to produce, not regress.
There is also a hard working culture in this organization that Riley has created and Wade pretty much defines that culture; Haslem does too and Mourning as well. I have not witnessed and no one else can say they have witnessed any signs of Wade being unmotivated.
Why would you think that anyways? Because he's been injured and limited? Yeah, let's give Wade a big "F U" for NOT taking the shoulder & knee surgery on time in hopes to defend our title. "F U" also because though most suggested you should have sat out Game 7 versus the Pistons, you decided to take a few vaccines and play through it and came out just short (1:21 left) from reaching the Finals in 04-05.
Wade has gone through hell and has been nothing but a warrior/Favre-like for this team. I have no problems of him taking some time off to rest; he needs it and deserves every bit of it; though as of today, his training begins. Those commercials are barely even physical and if he's going to do them I don't see the harm in it; it's not like he's doing Dancing with the Stars like Jason Taylor.
Don't worry, Wade will be back 100% and he's repeated that a few times already, even on Thursday on TNT.

How is Jason Taylor doing dancing with the stars to get exposure for a post nfl life a bad thing? Hes not getting arrest or doing something crazy so why is that a bad thing?
Not really going to get into Jason Taylor, as that would be off topic, but would you want Dwyane be doing Dancing with the Stars in the offseason or would you rather have him go with his goal of being in the best shape of his playing career?
Like I said, those commercials he does aren't anything really. Hell, wouldn't be surprised if some of these players do commercials during the season. But something like DWTS takes your focus to another direction.

lol. Obviously you can tell i'd like Wade or really any top 4 player that'll be available in the 2010 draft wearing a Knicks Jersey. in fact, 29 other teams in the NBA will be wanting Wade wearing their jersey that offseason, unless they get Paul or LeBron instead.

Got news for you, my friend. Jason Taylor is in the best shape of his career BECAUSE he's dancing with the stars.
Now, back on topic; the thread is stupid. [/thread]

We're going to need him to play a lot of linebacker this year. Great cardio shape with fantastic footwork and flexibility? You actually see a problem with that?

Bball, by your logic male dancers would make great pass-rushers, while guys who lift weights and run sprints would not.
If dancing makes you a better football player, why doesn't Shawn Merriman stop lifting weights, running sprints, practicing technique, and watching gamefilm and instead just ........ dance!
I'm glad you weren't my coach.

You do realize that a lot of lineman actually take ballet right? It improves footwork, stamina, and balance. I fail to see how missing VOLUNTARY workouts to dance on national TV in a free commercial for the league is some sort of horrible affront to the proud tradition of a 1-15 team.
BTW, I'm really glad to see your football coach did you such a favor. How's the million dollar home working out for you? Been to many pro-bowls? When do you go into the HOF, again?
Boy, that tradition of high school football must really make you qualified to tell a 6 time all-pro and DPOY how to spend his offseason...

Zach Thomas has always had very bulky and stout frame. He's 5'10 230 not 6'4 230. A Bit diffrent of a makeup, and it makes a complete difference.
And Zach has never played 34 outside linebacker. He's a mike backer. 34 Outside linebacker tries to get past a left tackle. I don't care who you are, you aint shedding no blocks from a NFL caliber starting left tackle consistently at 230 lbs. You will be engulfed more often than not.
Taylor himself said he didn't want to lose weight. Because he knows it will be a tough time getting it back and playing at a high level at the posisition he's set to play.
