Pacers and Knicks both won more games than we did, but I'd prefer to be in our situation any day of the week.

I don't disagree that the Wolves are in a decent position to build but putting together a team that can win long term is difficult. The Wolves situation is far from idiot proof. The Hawks, Bulls, and other teams have been in a similar situation for years and haven't gotten over the hump.

From the reports, it sounded like the Wolves had multiple offers that involved at least 1 good young player. I don't think getting a good player for KG was difficult.

I guess I just overestimate McHale due to some of the recent moves he's made. By idiot proof I mean he could just let our young talent develop and be frugal with our cap space and we would likely become a playoff team in 2-3 years. He could still draft a bust or massively overpay a free agent but I trust him enough to not make the same mistake twice by failing to build a quality team around a dominant big man.

So would you admit McHale made the right trade? Is there anyone here that would rather have Biedrins over Al Jefferson? I believe the CHI offer a year earlier is a figment of Stan Smith's imagination, but what other "1 good player" would have been better? Does anyone really believe Amare was available? Who would have been better?

He probably made the right trade, but Andrew Bynum or Monte Ellis wouldn't have been bad either.

I'd also add that I'm happy with the rest of the BOS deal as well. Telfair and Ratliff proved better than I thought (though I thought "nothing", Gerald Green worse). Ratliff was the huge expiring that righted the ship financially. Gomes proved to be the second best player on the team, and hopefully a part of our future. We also got two 1sts, although they aren't lottery.

Would anyone trade Al and that package back to get Garnett, and undo McHale's trade?

I think both teams did well here.

Even if the CHI offer was fiction, I still daydream about it from time to time.

I believe it was Deng, Chandler, 2006 pick and 2007 pick.
Including the Wolves picks, that could've translated into a roster like:

Chandler
LMA
Deng
Roy
Conley

But what about Monta Ellis+ Andre Biedrins or the 8th pick? How about Bynum + Odom (who has legitimate trade value)?
Anyway, I'm just saying it would have been difficult for McHale not to get some value out of KG.

even though we didn't get Rondo and Gerald Green didn't work out, I still like the big expiring deal, the below market value contract for Al, Al's game, and Gomes' versatility. And I love the mentality that Gomes/AL have. They're well-adjusted young men.

Bynum/Odom would've been really nice, but then we don't really have a reliable back to the basket player and thats huge for me. Same with the GS deal, good players, but no post scorers. We can fill the center spot with the Jeff Foster/Diops of the world.
