What's going to happen when a disciplinarian comes in and wants Amare to play defense and will hold him accountable? Everyone thought Marion's ego was bad...The turning point in this franchise wasn't the selling of the draft picks, wasn't the Joe Johnson crap, it was refusing to go all out to make a Amare/KG deal somehow happen when we had the chance. Amare is not a leader, never has been, never will be. And him basically lowballing the coach every chance he gets is disgusting. Mike D is not stupid, he has managed to keep Amare's ego somewhat under wraps because he knows if he challenges him it won't turn out well. Kerr is too much of an idiot to realize this.
absolutely. this lineup:
PG: Nash
SG: Bell
SF: Marion
PF: Garnett
C: Diaw
bench: Hill, Barbosa
. . . is better than the celtics.

About Shaq's contract:
- He signed that extension after his first year in Miami where he had a TERRIFIC year.
Remember, he was the runner-up in the MVP vote that year, helped Miami get the # 1 seed in the East, and averaged 23 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks a game.
Miami also made it to the Eastern Conference Finals that year, losing to Detroit in Game 7.
Shaq took a $ 25,000,000 pay-cut on that extension.
I wish people stop complaining about his contract...blame Riley for giving him that much money, but give credit to Shaq for taking a huge pay-cut despite the fact that he had a terrific first year in Miami.
How many people would turn down 25 million dollars?
And Shaq played well when he came to Phoenix; he averaged a double-double, he rebounded very well, and Amare moved over to his more natural PF position and exploded offensively.
With that being said, in hindsight, they should have kept Marion because he's much younger and doesn't have Shaq's history of injuries.
I love Shaq (My favorite player ever), and I was thrilled he came to Phoenix, but they should have kept Marion.
Nash/Bell/Hill/Marion/Amare line-up is great.

I def wuda taken KG in exchange for Amare back then, if it was just those 2 in the deal + scrubs. From what I remember I was 1 of the only Suns fans for it back then.
That was before Dwight's break out year so at the time the only bigmen I wuda taken for Amare were KG or a healthy Brand (not including Duncan in the discusion cuz there's no way in hell he wuda left SanAN).
We kicked butt at every aspect of the game besides post defense and rebounding, and to a lesser extent low post-scoring (Diaw was our only guy with a good set of post moves)
A healthy Brand or KG wuda helped us out lots there, and all the while still look sick runnin the pick n roll with Nash on the offensive end.
The only reason not to trade Amare for KG wuda been if Minny wanted us to include the ATL pick or Barbs in the package.
I'm not sure McHale wuda taken our package over the Celt's package tho. Why wud he have wanted to help us out over his former team?

Great enough to be 5-10 against SAS, NO, Dallas, Utah, Houston, GS, Denver and LAL before the Shaq deal.

But Amare is much younger than KG and he's a better scorer.
However, KG is a terrific defender (Amare is a terrible defender) and is a great leader.
He is unselfish and doesn't have a big ego.
Shaq/KG would have been awesome.
In hindsight, if they traded Amare for KG, and then made the Marion/Shaq trade, KG's terrific defense might have been enough to overcome Nash and Shaq's bad defense.
Plus, since it seems this team only has another year or 2 to contend because of its age, it would have been cool to get KG in the prime of his career to Phoenix to win a title together.
Nash/Hill/KG/Shaq = Future Hall of Famers. Would have been awesome to see them win a Championship together.

^, What, the 2004 Lakers with Malone, Payton, Kobe, and Shaq made it to the Finals that year; sounds successful to me.
Remember, Malone was playing on one leg in the Finals and didn't even play in Game 5 and he was a HUGE part of their success.
His loss was a huge blow to that team.
Also, Kobe was terrible in the Finals; it seemed like he was going out of his way to try and win the Finals MVP Award.
And they made it to the Finals despite a HUGE off-the-court distraction. (Kobe)
I would say the 2004 Lakers had a successful season.
Plus, Nash/Hill/KG/Shaq would be better than that team because Payton was nearing the end of his career and that was Malone's final season in the NBA.
Nash and KG are still great players.

Like someone else said, once you get to the point where a certain team can't win a title you look back and find the reasons why your inept front-office screwed the pooch. I think it's safe to say we are at that point.

Nash/Bell/Hill/Marion/Amare line-up is great.
Dude you should check your facts first.
Jerry Buss traded Shaq because he felt Shaq was not worth a 30 Mil additional dollars per year for 5 years (which is what Shaq wanted).
Pat Riley, as Steven A Smith would say, is not "Boo Boo the Fool" either. He was not going to give Shaq that kind of extension either.
Shaq had no leverage either. His choice was to play out his final year at 30 Mil, then become a Free Agent and sign with someone for the mid level exception. Though there were teams with salary cap space that could have paid him more...Shaq was not going there...nor do I think those teams would have signed him (why? they were not contending any time soon).
So, Shaq had to take the best deal on the table. You think that if a contender had the cap space and offered him the 30 mil per.....Shaq would of still taken the pay cut? Please

Shaq's no good samaritan. And he sure as hell did not willingly take a pay cut. Contrary to popular belief.

He didn't leave $25 mil on the table...and his reasons for taking the so called pay cut were not at all altruistic. He wanted to prove the Lakers made a mistake.....
and the only way to do that was to allow the Heat to assemble a team with players other than D League, or vet min retreads. With his present salary pre-extension, the Heat were handcuffed.
That savings enabled the Heat to make the big trade to bring in the talent needed to compete and win a title.
