Robin Lopez
Can this kid actually contribute on an NBA team? He's a good defender, rebounder, and shot blocker. 7 foot stiffs have made a career out of that. Can this kid walk and catch a basketball at the same time?
I'd love to hear from people who have actually watched him.

I can assure you that this is definitely the case. He even has a little bit of a jumper and a jump hook to contribute with on offense. He may need to get a bit stronger to gain post position, but he's got a lot of tools to help a team right away.
He's a steal IMO if he goes below 25th overall.

This guy is far from a stiff. His teammates called him "Beast" and rightfully so. He's athletic, and was the best interior defender in the Pac-10 last season. But he also showed flashes of some offensive potential--a little bit of a jumper and hook, as well as some raw post moves. Stanford simply didn't need him to have much offense with his brother as the star, but I would have liked to see him return to demonstrate what he could do as The Man. People are pidgeonholing him as a Noah or Varajao because of the defense and, well, the hair, but he's shown flashes of becoming a force inside on the offensive end as well. He'd be a steal below 20, IMO.

You think Robin Lopez has shown more offensive talent than Noah? Noah is going to become a very solid starting PF/C on both ends of the court - if people thought he had Noah-like potential, he'd be a top 10 pick without a doubt.

He's definitely not a stiff. He's just been living in his brother's shadow. He'll be about as good as Varejao (not bc of the hair) -- he's a bit taller and he'll be as active on both ends. He'll just also need time to grow.
Because he's far from a finished product, I don't think I'd draft him top 15.
The issue is that whoever drafts him will need to be ready to spend some time developing him and I don't know that he needs D-League kind of help. And some teams might want a piece more ready now.

Expect him to be a big time contributor. His offense is really underrated due to his lack of touches because he's alway played with his brother. Robin should have stayed an additional year at stanford and people might be looking at him as a top 10 pick next year.
If he's put into a situation where he has access to a big man coach expect really great things from him. But he will be a project on the Offensive side of the ball. But he should also contribute right away defensively.

^^^I think you missed out on some of robins fanatastic games where he was a real factor offensively.
Think AV but with the ability to block shots and to post up. He doesn't have pretty post moves but they are there. He really knows how to get good positon under the basket and seems to have OK hands. If he has a competent PG to get him the ball when he has position I don't see why he couldn't get 10-12 pts a night after he has finished developing.

1, I don't like the fact that he played against second bigs because of his brother.
2. The guy had WAY to many games of 9 or less points, 5 or less rebounds and 4 or more fouls.
3. The guy doesn't have scoring moves, he just looks like he scored because of size/talent, not so much a move.
4. Only 10 guys averaged 10 boards, and no way does Lopez have the ability to do that anytime soon in the league.
5. The AV comment was basically saying Robin will never (IMO) be a scorer/starter for a team, so he will get scrap type offensive numbers (7-9 points, 5-7 rebounds, a little bit over a block a game).

I don't think he's quite shown it yet. But had he returned to Stanford and been the #1 option, I wouldn't have been surprised if he did (and was this considered a top 10 pick).

He's not a stiff at all. In fact he's probably the more athletic of the two Lopez brothers. Lopez is a bigger and more skilled version of Anderson Varejao (even down to the looks).

Those are interesting points but I think you have to put them in the context of the college game. There just aren't very many possessions in a college game let a lone a game for a slow paced team like Stanford. In otherwise there aren't that many stats to get. Thats not to say he will put the stats up in the pro but I think there can be mitigating factor .
