VL, have you watched Rose? His jumper was looking pretty good by the end of the year (nailed a big, NBA-range 3 in the Championship game), and he has shown an adept ability since Highschool to set up teammates. Sure, Memphis' system keeps him from totally playing the PG role, but there is no question he had the ball in his hands most of the time to make plays, for which at times he's shown great ability. Yes he had to score a lot, but his play also had a lot to do with the team's ball movement and tempo. The guy knows how to run an offense, and is totally a point guard. Rose is definitely not a Steve Nash-style pure point, but to say that his natural position is the 2 is pretty far from the truth, especially when considering his still-questionable shooting ability. Indeed he reminds of Dwyane, but I believe Dwyane was less of a distributor in college. There's no question that Rose is still a work in progress, he's 19. I really think once the kid hits the pro's, you will see why he plays 1 unarguably. If anything, for the Heat it would be a good thing if Rose was more comfortable scoring off the bat.

Imagine Rose and Wade?

Imagine Rose and Wade?
If you guys get the first pick I would assume you would take Rose. If so you would have the best backcourt ever. Rose might even be better then Wade. You would have one of the best playmaking pg's and one of the best playmaking sg.
Any of you guys thinking somebody besides Rose?
Blount
Haslem
Marion
Wade
Rose
Would they be back late in the playoffs with that?

"With the early-entry list yet to be released in time for the chat session, Spoelstra was not allowed to mention candidates by name. But the "best player available" in this draft is Michael Beasley. The best fit for the Heat is Derrick Rose. The ultimate, and perhaps only, voice on the decision belongs to Pat Riley"

Yes, NBA scouts are at it already, even before the May 20 lottery sets the first 14 spots for the June 26 NBA Draft
One NBA personnel official last week offered a look at his draft board, with the caveat that his comments were not for attribution and that his precise order not be listed.
"Just this morning I did my mock draft and I put (Derrick) Rose number one
"I'll be honest about it, I'll be stunned if Miami doesn't take Rose.
The scout from an Eastern Conference team said he had Kansas State forward Michael Beasley going second after the Memphis guard, with Arizona guard Jerryd Bayless, Stanford center Brook Lopez and UCLA forward Kevin Love rounding out his first five.
"I personally am in the opinion that Bayless is going to be a big-time pro," he said. "He's way more of a point guard than people will give him credit for."
In his next group, the scout had Louisiana State forward Anthony Randolph, Southern Cal guard O.J. Mayo, Italian League forward Danilo Gallinari, Kansas forward Darrell Arthur, Syracuse forward Donte Greene, Texas guard D.J Augustin.
"Randolph would probably be my first player in that third tier," he said, perhaps overlooking Indiana guard Eric Gordon when listing that grouping.
Need more? We'll have it with an extensive lottery preview in Sunday's newspaper.

interesting. Rose and Beasley will both be big time players IMO. Rose has a higher ceiling IMO while Beasley is more polished right now. Rose is more of a fit, while Beasley could come in from day 1 and start, so can Rose. It'll be interesting what the Heat do.
As long as they get a top 2 pick I'll be fine. If they get the third pick I will be pissed off. A player like Rose and Beasley can completely turn a franchise around. Add either of them to a player of Wade's calibur and that will cause matchup problems all over the floor.

Guys like Melo and Josh Howard struggling in the 1st round might not be looked as a big deal for Heat fans, but it really is
Teams are trying to make major shakeups to be championship contenders, Mark Cuban and Steve Kerr might get desperate.
If LA doesnt win, maybe LO will be available. I love Jason Terry, he could be available also.
Just more options for us in case we fall to #3 or #4 in the lottery.

I'd probably have to take that. I wonder whether I can get Hibbert or DeAndre Jordan at that 20 spot in a draft night trade. Leaves us a little screwy at PG as I don't think the PG FA crop (Udrih, JCN etc) can defend the elite level PG's of this league, but most teams have a flaw or two. We would have a young, talented team at most positions.
C - Hibbert or Jordan / Mourning
PF - Haslem / Kleiza
SF - Anthony / Wright
SG - Wade / Cook
PG - ? / Banks
Haslem 28
Wade 26
Banks 26
Kleiza 23
Anthony 23
Wright 22
Cook 21
Hibbert 21
I think we could offer JCN or Udrih the MLE anyway to round it out and wait until the following season to move Blounts expiring with some combo or picks and/or Cook or Wright for our starting PG and then we are set.

BTW, all this talk of taking "the best player available" by the Heat is the perfect way to get something extra in the draft if we get the first pick and the team drafting second wants Beasley. We can trade down and get something else as well. Like Memphis already has JCN, Conley and Crittenton and nothing up front.
If it goes
1. Miami
2. Memphis
And they think we are taking Beasley, they could offer
#2 + Miller for #1 + Blount
or
#2 + JCN or Crittenton for #1 + filler
By saying "the best player available" we don't really know who they mean (they could very well think Rose is the best player) so by not showing our hand we can get more leverage.

If they're going to drop down a spot to memphis who'll take Beasley, it doesn't do us any good to recieve JCN or Crittenton in a trade, because he will be selecting Rose with the 2nd pick. I'd try to target Darko or Miller as the filler to complete the deal.
Something like--- Blount and #1 for Darko/Miller and #2
C: Darko, Turiaf (Part MLE)
PF: Haslem, Marion, Turiaf
SF: Marion, Wright
SG: Wade, Cook
PG: Rose, Banks
With the possibility to let Marion walk after next season and to sign Brand. A trio of Wade-Rose-Brand would be a killer inside-outside trio. To fill the backup C and PF spot, split the MLE between 2 players and use the 2nd round draft pick.

The Grizz will not do that trade. That is too much. They'll stick with Rose and trade Conley before they do that trade.MartyConlonJr wrote:BTW, all this talk of taking "the best player available" by the Heat is the perfect way to get something extra in the draft if we get the first pick and the team drafting second wants Beasley. Maybe a trade of Blount, Cook and #1 for Collins, Crit (or Lowry) & #2#2 + JCN or Crittenton for #1 + filler
