For some reason Corey Maggette's value has skyrocketed across these boards in the last month. It's pretty awesome. I think having a very efficient scorer with no character problems is becoming more valued in the NBA recently. I wouldn't be surprised to see us get something very good in a return for CMaggz over the offseason.

That's what's up. It's not that I think Corey is overrated, I appreciate what he brings to the Clippers, but what we need is a gritty Battier-type player who does the little things and some stability at the PG spot, which is what Head would bring. Corey's best asset is his scoring, and in a lineup already boasting Elton Brand, Chris Kaman, and Al Thornton (all potential 20ppg scorers), we really don't need him as much as we used to. Corey is a great player and I'd love to see him stick around, but the way I see it, trading Maggs for Battier & Head is an upgrade.

If Corey opts out, he can sign with any team. Thing is, it is unlikely that any team that can afford to give Corey a raise will actually have any interest in Corey. If Corey opts out and doesn't sign with another team, the Clippers still have the option of dealing Corey as part of a sign and trade deal which would allow the Clippers to get something for Corey even if he opts out.
Maggette's contract situation this year is similar to what the Clippers dealt with Marko Jaric when he was a free agent three summers ago, where we eventually used Marko as part of a sign and trade deal that landed the Clippers Sam Cassell.

Corey Maggette = Shane Battier + Luther Head (or preferably Aaron Brooks)
I agree, without Brooks this deal could be possible, however, I am a big fan of Battier, this guy does his job, its some other players that need to go out of Houston
